Thoughts on Electric Cars?
With the gas prices the way they are, Im seriously considering an electric car these days. RN I drive this
and I do like the car, but I pay about $800 monthly on gas, plus $250 financing. So buying an electric car for $60k actually seems cheaper at this point. Thing is in the past year I put like 40k miles on my car, and I have no idea how an electric car would hold up reliability wise if I drive this much every year for 5 yrs. I kinda like this one
. the suvs seem kinda ****gy. What does misc think?

EV's don't save you money. Initial cost, and then when they do break it's very expensive, and batteries deteriorate and are very expensive to replace. You know how when you get a new phone the battery last forever but after a year or two you've got to keep it on the charger or it's low battery before you know it? Yeah well imagine that happening with your car.

I own TSLA and I am advising you not to go electric dude. Huge upfront costs that if you finance instead of pay cash it hurts even more. And consider a 100 kWh battery will cost $33 to charge (where I live) at your house so it is by no means free like everyone thinks. Plus your insurance will probably double (not many people know this) because they are so expensive to repair.
All electric cars do is move emissions from the car to the power plant.

Until they can be charged as quickly and conveniently as an internal combustion engine car, I'm not interested. They'd have to be really cheap too. I currently have two small cars, one which gets close to 40 mpg, so fuel cost isn't an issue. I also have no car payment. There's no way any electric car would be cost effective for me now.

We are in the era where hybrid cars make the most sense.
We need some more decades I think before electric vehicles can compete with a hybrid.
If you're rich and want one car for around town, and the other for everything else, then might as well get an electric for the local driving.

Its the future regardless of gas prices. Its better technology in every way other than the “feel”.
In the near future, cars with combustion engines will be like mechanical watches… not practical and not used by anyone who isnt an enthusiast of the hobby.
I say this as a person with a v8 truck and a v6 biturbo merc.

How you gonna drive that gas car when the govt shuts down oil production and import?
At least you can generate electricity. Good luck digging up crude oil and refining it.

EVs are getting there, starting to see some nicer looking ones like i4, F-150 electric and Hummer EV. The tech still has a ways to go, Tesla is still the driving force behind it and they're promising I think 500mi on their Cybertruck (probably about 400 real world).
Give it a good decade and they'll be the best choice in just about all respects.

If you want one buy one? I don't like electric vehicles outside of the Hummer and if Mercedes was to come out with a good one.

Battery Deg is nothing like on a phone, and you're retarded if you think they are anything like similar.
I'm working on batteries for EVs right now, and were cycling them constantly and seeing no more than 2+3% Deg a year.

I don’t understand how electric cars are the answer when chitholes like California can’t even make it through a summer without rolling blackouts
Surely adding the burden of a couple million electric cars won’t add any stress to that

Unless it's some dystopian scenario where they'll be reserved for the wealthiest in our society, and the rest of us will have to make do with riding our bikes and ride sharing when we're granted that privilege.

pros:
performance, potentially
less pollution specifically where you live
cons:
congolese kids are digging cobalt with their bare hands right now for them
the battery manufacture and disposal is horrendous for the environment
doesn't break even with a petrol vehicle regarding even co2 (which, by the way, is an inert gas essential for life on earth) until an amount of miles after the battery has already died
if the battery cooks off, which has happened a bunch of times with teslas, it will burn down your house and pretty much can't be put out with water unless you use literally 50,000 gallons
the grid can't support many of them, and it keeps getting worse
the cost of electricity is heavily influenced in most areas by the cost of natural gas, which is spiking as well thanks to muh ukraine
you'll be viewed as a literal homosex
i could keep going, but did you even do the full math on that 60k purchase

theyre idiotic and for idiots. esp teslas. I made a thread on it and everyone just cowered away like pussy.
I drive a prius cost of owning is extremely cheap and get benefits of electricity without burden cuz its hybrid. thus highway is engine so battery isn't overworked.
that said might buy a truck cuz prices will drop and someones gonna struggle pay gas and will downsize equals good deals.
btw; check out repair costs for tesla plus monopoly

Electric motorcycle is where its at.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
