Trying to join the AF - recruiter making a big deal out of the scar on my arm.

Long story short, I carved my friend's initials on the side of my wrist with a small razor in middle school and I still have the scars. Well, now my recruiter (US) made a big fuss when he saw it. Said the doc would DQ me instantly when he sees it. Still haven't gone to MEPS.

What do? It's slightly difficult to see with all my hair, but its there if you focus on my wrist area. I'm not suicidal, nor have I ever been. I was edgy and wouldn't back down from bets when I was younger.

Of course the recruiter is going to fuss about it. Something like that is a huge indicator of mental instability/disorder and you can't join the military when you're crazy.

MEPS made a big deal about me possibly having asthma and I had to write a statement saying I didn't and had to get an additional test to prove I didn't have it.

The military might have a recruiting crisis, but they still have standards to adhere to.

How obvious is it? Just wear a long sleeve sweater lol. At meps you're still in civilian clothing. You only strip down when they check you for any bodily type injuries. You do the duck walk in your under wear and the Doctor checks your body out for stuff like bad knees etc.

Also, sounds like your Air Force Recruiter already hit his monthly quota is doesn't want to do the paper work for you unless you're a super easy recruit to get in. My recruiter did the same. I was a kid with literally a blank background and super easy paper work. Some other kid had came back in and my recruiter told him he was good and as soon as he walked out he tossed his paper into the trash.

Air Force recruiters hit their quotas super fast. If you went into the Army they wouldn't even have noticed it. You might want to find another Air Force recruiter and hope they haven't hit their recruiting goals yet.

It is a liability thing as well. Not just about ability to contribute, but the amount of resources it will take during, and after contributing.

Trying to join with scars on your wrist is like trying to get insurance for a house with a pool and 10 meter high dive in a residential neighborhood with no fence around it.

It is just bad business.

Nothing personal OP, obviously. I would practice expectation management here.
