My rent is going up 20% this year. Inflation is darn near 10%. Gas is like $5/gal when it used to be below $2.5/gal very recently.

The company I work for pays me $84k base, but my tax returns will show a gross of $120k due to overtime + bonuses. Annual bumps around 4%. This felt great 2 years ago. But now today it is feeling like I'm not gaining the savings/headway I want. Plus my company underpays compared to industry standard for my work experience + education + certifcations. I decided to start actively looking for other jobs. I applied to positions at two different companies, both mention base pay ranges between $100k-$180k.

If your company isn't going to help you fight against the CoL and inflation, take the matter into your own hands, SRS. The greatest salary increases in most people's lives come from transitioning companies. Don't succumb to the times and accept what is going on.

true, i have to offer $20-25 per hour for the same work I was asking of for $15 per hour last year

Only if you are consistently building new skills and getting new experience. Otherwise new companies will likely just offer you the base pay and you have to start all over again

I like how OP makes a thread that sounds like advice but is really just a place for him to brag about his mediocre salary.

Anyways no thx OP I like my job and it's tough to find an employer that pays more for my position without going to a FAANG employer and being Jeff Bezos slave.

Strong assumptions. I am not bragging about my chit salary. I am angry by it. I have friends with less certs and experience at actually good companies that pay $150k+ base. This pisses me off. I'm glad I'm finally angry about it because now I can try for more and get what I'm really worth. I'm trying to help people realize that 3-5% annual pay bumps aren't worth the comfort of sticking around at your current company in a world where inflation is 10%+.

My natural gas price per therm is triple what it was vs a year ago

Cars cost double

Gas is over double

Food is double

Rent/homes cost 50 percent more

How on earth could anyone think inflation is anything less than 50 percent let alone 10 percent?
