Anyone who says they don’t judge people is a liar (srs)

Rust Cohle articulated it better than I ever could but I always felt this way.

Nobody ever says not to judge someone who did something good.

Especially when girls blurt out “You’re insecure if you judge her by her past!”

Oh really? So Mother Theresa can’t be judged as a good person for all the things she did because it’s in the past? No. It’s a defense mechanism to justify poor behavior. That’s all it is.

It’s human nature to judge. We all do it every single time we look at a person, hear a person speak, etc etc.

Like for instance I’m judging you right now OP, and I think you’re a fuking ****get.

You never hear people say “I’m not judging, but” or “Sorry, didn’t meant to sound judgmental?”

It's possible to be in a state of non-judgement though - either way, just think about something embarrassing you've done and how somebody knows about it and then judges your whole life based off of that.

Alright dammit WiseOldApe I think you might’ve just made a valid point. Yes being judged solely on one thing is wrong I agree. But in general I think you get the picture.

Well then it would be obvious to me that one would want to work on not wasting their energy forming judgements around other's behaviour, if your own isn't perfect.

You don’t have to be perfect to judge someone’s actions. I had a fwb for 6 months who became a sex worker/prostitute. She’s still a really nice person but she did sacrifice her dignity for money. That was a poor decision on her part that’ll probably greatly effect her life according to the stats.

There's a couple of valid takeaways from 'don't judge' that occur to me.

First is our tendency to give ourselves a pass for being a dick occasionally without affording the same consideration to some random we notice behaving like a dick. Sometimes we should consider that we too might behave as they are behaving if we had a bad day or something.

Second is to not judge peoples' characters about something petty. e.g. Just because I don't give a chit about sports, I shouldn't assume someone is a shallow arsehole if they talk about soccer for ages with their friends. e.g. Some people are not charismatic or well dressed but are decent caring people with good morals so judging them for not being cool is not great.

EDIT

But yeah 'don't judge people' as a blanket rule is ridiculous. I like to apply the 'what if they're a child molester?' test to aphorisms, well I'm judging the hell out of someone who sexually assaults children, so there you go.
"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

My ex gf’s brother walked into another friend’s house with us and saw his NY rangers themed chairs and said “Yea I’m not sitting on those.” And I just couldn’t get over how fukking stupid that was. He was cool all the way up to that point and I could never get over how petty that was. He was dead serious and said it right to the guy’s face. I mean Jesus Christ wtf? That one bothered me lol.

Well yeah sometimes you just gotta hustle - it turned out that she's felt she was better off getting paid for having sex than getting half arsed d*cked on side from Andrew28.

Alright brah I get it. I’ve personally attacked you in the past for the nonsense you spew and so have a lot of other miscers. I give you one tip of the cap and you gotta throw insults at me, lol. She wouldn’t be fwb with me for 6 months if she wasn’t enjoying it. Relax.

And the other guy who referenced judging child molesters made an excellent point. Sometimes you have to use an extreme example to make your point and then you work your way towards the middle.

It’s like when the really gung-ho gun nuts scream “IT’S AN INANIMATE OBJECT!!” Yea well, so is a hydrogen bomb but you don’t want anyone to just walk into a store and buy one. I never see even the most pro-gun people begging to have fully automatic weapons like an MG42 legal to the public. Everyone draws a line somewhere.

I don't think judgment is the issue. It's the lack of mercy that can raise hell.

Judgment is necessary. It's condemnation that should be reserved for the necessary occasions. People condemn wantonly, though.

Also, those that judge feel judged. The more you scrutinize others the more you scrutinize yourself. This can be healthy, and it can also be destructive.

Judgements are always a self-read, though. They will always reveal more about yourself than anything. They are a confession disguised as something else.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Sorry that i have a whole stable whilst you are barely able to have one - no need to judge me in a good or bad way.

Yeah well I don't judge people for liking sports but fanatics always make stupid decisions.

I don’t judge people for liking sports either but too many of them get wayyyy too carried away.

We automatically make snap judgements whether someone is friend or foe, someone who can benefit us or take away from us, is a threat or someone protective, has common interests or noncommon. It's no different then looking at a group of girls and automatically zeroing in on the one you'd want to sleep with or looking at a photo of men and zeroing in on who has the best physique. LOL to think the last 200 years of trying to be understanding of others will override thousands of years of evolution. Not sure how you just came to this realization?

You're also missing the point of your own post. Whatever people say compared to what they've already thought. I've made conclusions about people the second I saw them and they after meeting and talking to them afterwards I realized I was wrong or right. Everyone thinks it but not everyone says it. I doubt there are truly many people out there who see someone and don't give a single thought about them.

Serious question. Do you study evolutionary psychology and/or anthropology?

I do a ton of it in my downtime. This post is perfect and sums up exactly what I’ve learned about human behavior. I didn’t just come to this realization. I’ve always felt it even before studying those topics. Rust Cohle just articulated it in a really cool way. And I’m tired of seeing people lying to each other about the nature of the beast that is human.

Our brains are tremendously outdated for the industrialized world we live in today.

Wish I could rep you twice.

Not really. It's just how I see the world. I don't think it's so much that our brains are outdated it's that the way our brains think in the sense we are talking about were much more geared to what was needed for survival back when security and resources weren't guaranteed. Rather than trying to judge people for not trying to be judge mental we should realize it exists and act accordingly. If you had a population of people who didn't judge you'd have a lot of people ending up in situations they wouldn't want to be in or get taken advantage of. Instincts exist for a reason. Judging is part of it. It's not just with humans but with all life. There's really no point in not trying to be judgmental towards others because I can guarantee you the person looking back at you has already made theirs. The idea of not being judgmental is just something used to make you feel better about yourself that you're more accepting towards people you don't know or situations. But again, the problem here is we're dealing with the unspoken part and there's no way for anyone to know except you. Once someone speaks then it becomes an opinion.

I for one on the surface really don't care about what other people do. If you were to ask me then I'd glad tell you. For example, when I hear an excessively loud car I think to myself, what a *******, and I judge people who feel the need to drive cars with modified exhausts to make themselves feel more noticed or empowered. But I keep my mouth shut. Now if I was next to someone and they made a comment then of course I'd share my dislike about it. I guess what I am saying is that I wouldn't directly call someone out on it unless I got pulled into the situation.

No ****. Everyone judges everyone. I would make a negative judgment of anyone legit trying to claim they "don't judge".

I judge people all the time. You can most times judge a book by its cover.

There are people who do it as a job, judges. There is even a tier of angels called judges.

Seems with all that it is something we are supposed to do.

The people who say they dont do it are the ones getting conned or pick pocketed and such.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

RIP Pedro Suarez Vertiz. Te queremos Hermano

If your right leg is Thanksgiving and your left leg is Christmas, can I come and visit you between the holidays?
