Work not paying out vacation days after I resigned?

I had 15 vacation days but the policy is to payout a max of 10. So I booked 5 days off on my last week. Now they are telling me that I’m not allowed to book any time off during my resignation period.

Wtf.. I did them a favour of providing as much notice as possible. I could’ve easily taken my vacation and then handed in my resignation notice but decided I should let them know asap so they could plan.

What should I do?

What if I just refuse to work the last week and claim I’m sick? Technically I have 5 paid sick days too which I was fine with leaving in the bank.

check the employee handbook. if you don't have one, ask HR for it. see exactly what it says.

Check state and county laws too. I assume your company is permitted to not pay out more than 10 and to deny paid sick leave but that might not be the case - especially the latter.

The law in my area is to only pay out a max of 10. The not being able to take time off during resignation period is not a law but I assume it’s in company policy.

What kind of poverty company doesn’t pay out all accrued vacation?

Jfl if you’re not using only sick time to accrue max vacation payout upon separation

Is that state law that allows that? Not allowed here.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
