How often do you donate blood?

I’m O- so I’ve been trying to donate as much as possible.

Last I heard they can't. The Red Cross is upset over too many variables aka even the Red Cross is skeptical.

Never have. Did the "donating plasma" thing a few times like 10 years ago when I was freshly married to my ex and broke af (they paid you "for your time" lol), but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I'd like to think the people who take actual blood donations tend to be a bit better trained in doing it than the clowns who get like a week of training before being sent to work the floor at plasma donation joints.

Usually twice per year.

My ferritin levels dip too low if I donate more than that. I take iron supplements to help mitigate that issue, but blood donation depletes that sht like nothing else.

I would donate as often as possible before leg broke. Stopped because I figured since PRP would help my knee, giving my blood away might hurt it, so I shouldn't take the chance since I'm struggling so hard. Plus, I have become anemic before from donating blood. Still get calls at least once a week from NY Blood Center >: (

Then as long as you go for followup visits every 4 months or so, they give extra $25 on the website + the $20 gift card you get at donation.

I only started earlier this year when the red cross announced there is a national blood shortage. So I gave once in Jan, and my 2nd time in april

Not like i'm saving the world, but it does feel good to do something for 'the greater good' other than bust out the checkbook.

My wife does a lot of real volunteering, gives up a lot of personal time. I feel I can handle ~30 minutes a few times a year.

Once I went with her to feeding tampa bay, packing up meals for food insecure families. Took a few hours to unload all the pallets of food and get packed up, but feel pretty darn good from that one but i'm too selfish to give up half a weekend day often.
Yeah they don’t do any of that here … plus there’s not even Red Cross up here

Yeah I was forced to volunteer with the Air Force at a food drive for thanksgiving….. I actually enjoyed it after I was there. I think that’s the hardest part for most people just getting started

donating blood can possibly be good for you; lowers cholesterol, triglycerides, iron (you need lowish iron as a man)

i can't donate blood cause of hair loss drug but i will do therapeutic phlebotomy

I haven't donated blood since early 2011. I maybe gave blood 11 or so times over 7 years or so.

It's something I should get back into.

This is generally true for men [thicker blood, sometimes high iron levels].

20 years or more for me. O positive, but not a good donor...tiny crooked veins that collapse easily and a tendency towards anemia.
