Moving to a new city, how did you do it?

How much did you have saved? Job lined up? Looking into it.

Not necessarily a new state, just a whole different area

I had a job lined up. At the time my parents were still helping me out a bit financially. I had good credit so getting a place to rent quickly wasn't an issue.

Couple of hundos at 18, shared room in a houseshare, got a cash in hand job before sorting papers/bank account, side hustled where I could.

Most importantly is to not get apathetic and gloomy as sometimes it can get demoralising when there's years without much improvement, then big strides happen seemingly overnight whether it's investments/hustles paying off or new career opportunities popping up. I've noticed that happens a lot less to people who are not proactive and just mope around all the time, being a happy idiot has served me pretty well on the long term.

If you decide to do it, good luck man! Nothing drives progress as having some fire under your azz

when I was 17 my parents moved my sad sorry ass from boston to mississippi where I rot to this day. One of the worst things to ever happen to me. i thought we were going to florida. honestly never got over it. I don't recommend moving. It's a near total loss of everything.

Very close to finishing my testing/licensing for my career. Might want to stay in my current area for a couple years to gain some experience then move to a nicer/cleaner city which basically costs the ****in same but Im right by the beach instead.

I had saved up enough for a DP on a house, but since I'm a minimalist I packed up the back of my truck with a camper top and drove from CT to WY. I don't have a wife or kids, so it was easy for me to pick up and move besides missing being able to visit my parents more often. I only had a part time job locked down when I visited out here a few weeks before the move, but I found work fairly quickly and landed one of the best jobs I could get with my background. So I guess things fell into place.

I'm not going to lie, it's tough being so far away. However my mom and stepfather are doing well, and my Dad is going to remarry soon, so things are going well for them. My sister moved in with her boyfriend, and she landed a good job in the nursing field out there. So they're going to be okay, but I still send good sized gift cards for birthdays and holidays to help out, at the least to piss off my Mom. LOL

Had a decent job after college, but realized I didn't want to stay where I was (too cold in Minnesota) so I decided to migrate south. I had a buddy I grew up with (in Wisconsin) who was already living in Atlanta and he said I could stay with him. So I left with a car that I owned outright, some clothes, and $5,000 that I had saved. Stayed at my buddies place for all of two days before I found an apartment and a job (just crappy retail to have money coming in). Six months later I bought a house, 6 months after that I had a "real" job. 20 years later I have a nice family, job, and house in the Atlanta suburbs!

Rent first before you decide to put down permanent roots.

The hardest will be rebuilding your social circle. For the first few years I invested hard in hobbies and team sports and ended up with a few life long friends.
