You stand in front of God when you die and asks you if you were a good person.

God asks you to state all the most selfless things you've done out of the good of your heart (raising your children doesn't count), and what you gave back.

Then God asks you how much you took and if it was equal to the amount you gave.

How ****ed are you?

I don't keep track of either because selfless acts are just that.
I don't expect anything in return when i perform them.

Why would raising your kids not count? God wants to know what you've done with the blessings he gave you, of which your children are the greatest.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

It could be argued philosophically that having children is inherently selfish.

For example:

Antinatalism: since children can’t consent to being born, it’s unethical to impose life (give birth) in a world in which the potential for extreme suffering exists. Having children means gambling with the welfare of someone else. It means conducting Frankenstein experiments you can't control in which someone else pays the price. It means playing god while lacking a god-like control over the outcomes.

Another is the amount of resources they consume. By having children, you are taking and consuming even more resources from the Earth. One example of this is farm animals. Some people believe that eating meat is unethical and others don't for whatever reason. Regardless, by having children, you are dooming thousands of animals to live a life of suffering through factory farming and then eventually a fear filled slaughter. This could have been avoided, but you had the decision to bring the child in this world.

This also effects other humans as well. From third world children being forced to knit their clothing, to others dying of starvation or being murdered so that first world businesses can acquire land or resources to grow/manufacture their products.

Next, you cannot determine whether your child will cause more direct/indirect suffering in this world or whether they'll do their best to help others. Most people including myself do not go out of their way to make the world a better place. Sure we might help someone when the opportunity presents itself but most will simply go to school > work > consume as much as they can in life and then have more kids who will consume even more without giving anything back.

Finally is the most selfish reason of all. If you believe in hell, then you are gambling your child suffering eternal punishment just so you can go pass on your genetics..

Doesn't matter, for Christians all that matters is you believe and repent your sins. You can do all the things you want, murder, rape, ****phile, etc, etc but if you repent, you are good. I love religion logic.

This doesn't matter. It was the parent's choice to bring children to life and therefore their responsibility to watch over them. Having children is inherently selfish due to a person wanting to pass on their genetics without accounting for all the negative effects on the environment as well as the potential suffering the child may go through. Ok. I understand the omission now.

With the right mental gymnastics, any act could be considered selfish.

I would tell God that it is none of his business. He didn't bother to save billions who died cruel, inhumane, and merciless deaths when he had the power to do so, so what right does he have to ask me to justify my existence.

Say that I am not worthy to judge myself and will be biased, so I will rely on His infinite wisdom and grace to decide my fate because He knows my heart and can see past my faults.

The Bible says that man is not saved by works, so the Greek/Egyptian etc. idea of the scales deciding where you end up does not apply here.

This. The standard is perfection. None of us meet that standard. Hence the need for Christ.

i tried to help an old lady cross the street today so she could catch the bus (she was too scared to cross on a green light)..also a mattress flipped off a car and i dragged it out of a 3 lane (going same direction) street so that there wasn't a accident...did both today.

An old couple in their late 60's told me god bless you and that god is watching me and the driver of the bus that saw me move the mattress gave me a thumbs up.

I'm good with God if he's real cause i do this type of chit any chance i get.

That’s Protestantism, which doesn’t speak for all of Christianity. Catholicism (the largest branch of Christianity) does not believe the above to be the case.

Sounds like a matter of perspective TBH

Some would argue that propagating the human race is a responsibility. Some would even say that reproduction and progression is the entire point of all life. Seems somewhat selfish to deny that due to a pessimistic outlook. Plus, what if that kid is the one who cures cancer or finds a way to reverse climate change?

Anyway, I have no idea how to answer this thread. I can think of things on both sides of the spectrum I've done. I'm definitely 80-90% good with my choices and what I've put into the world, but I don't that that washes out the bad, so I can't say I'm a good person definitively.
