Is this a valid preacher curl variant?
Cliffs:
- Love dumbbells on the preacher curl
- Usually do arm movement together
- Today, alternated arm movement and held inactive arm at the top of the rep
- Delivers sikkunt pump, wood recommend (srs)
- Is this one of those movements that delivers a great pump but doesn't really do chit for hypertrophy or, assuming I program it correctly to engage prog OL, can I use to this develop my biceps to sikkening levels?

Sure? I don't see why not. This is going to be an unpopular opinion, most likely, but my favorite bicep exercise is preachermachinesthough.
With those you're still really getting a huge percentage the resistance at full contraction (and throughout the entire range of motion) - as opposed to only getting a real small percentage with free weights.

I’m paranoid because I’ve heard going heavy on preacher curls can cause some gnarly bicep tears
I think it’s like leg press where you really don’t wanna lock out (hyperextend) at the bottom

I'm not fond of preachers, to be honest. I get a better contraction doing spider curls or incline curls.

Srs answer is same bro, I don't force chit on preacher curl-- super controlled, slow movements, lots of warming up at lower weights, etc.-- but honestly, preacher hits my bicep deep af and like batmanman said, it is actually a great exercise to strengthen tendons and thus, prevent the bicep tear that haunts your subconscious.

TBH I don't get seated row machines, even though some people swear by them. I can sit down at pretty much any row stack I come across and drop the pin to the bottom or near the bottom within 2 sets and rep it out, but it doesn't feel like it's doing chit for my back (srs). No idea m8 weird body mechanics chit I guess.

I would just do one arm at a time so you can really focus on each. Holding at the top seems kinda pointless but I don't know. In4 jestbrahs response

I kind of think that holding at the top is probably doing nothing for development in the long- long-term as well, but it will be nice to keep in the rotation because it really gives a sik af pump brah. Also in4 JB's response, I assume he is going to read me the Riot Act on this one.

The broscientist in me thinks holding it at the top will just fatigue your arm unnecessarily. But in4 JB to confirm

Don’t see the point In doing two at a time, that’s really Gonna be a pain in the ass when the weights get heavier
