A black goat with the remnants of a rope around its neck has been spotted wandering a stretch of New Plymouth’s coastal walkway.

One of those pictures was taken by Rose Watemburg, who said she spotted the goat as it stood on rocks near the sea and at first thought she was “going bonkers”.

“But then he graced us with his presence and smell.”

A New Plymouth District Council spokesperson said they had received a few call-outs for animal control officers, but the goat had “proved elusive”.




The goat had also been spotted near the Fitzroy Golf Club, a spokesperson said.

“Some council animal control officers showed up, but they didn’t want to chase a goat up and down the course.”
