I grew out of alcohol (deer diary)

I've always enjoyed drinking, since I was 16 and started going to house parties. I would drink every weekend mixing cheap vodka and orange juice. Once I moved out of home at 20 and into a flat with my 3 best mates, I started drinking more frequently, probably 3 times a week on average.

At this stage we were drinking premix bourbon cans loaded with sugar and caffeine. I put on alot of weight at this stage of my life.

Habits can be hard to break, and through my late 20's early 30's I continued drinking. I would buy bottles of spirits and mix them with diet soda at home. I started excersizing alot more once I hit 30 and lost alot of weight, desipte the alcohol. This gave the illusion that I was getting healthier despite my bad habits. I didn't party nearly as much as my younger days so I was drinking at home, just because thats what I did.

Once 2020 lockdowns hit, my drinking really started to get out of hand. I was drinking every night of the week, and in larger quantities.

It has been playing on my mind for a while now and I recently decided I wanted things to end differently. I wanted to take the control back. I wanted to keep my money, and use my time differently. I'm 36 now, I haven't had a drink for 2 weeks and I have no plans to start again anytime soon.

Much love and support to anyone struggling with their drinking habits. It's not easy my bro's, stay strong.

Same except my habit to kick was smoking pot.

I'm actually surprised by how much better my mind is functioning.

I never had any problems but just kind of got used to it not functioning to it's potential.

Basically being stoned became super normal to me.

Nice, man. I'm rooting for you. My sleep is better, waking up is better and I don't need to pee nearly as much. It's the little things

I know what you mean m8. It gets to the point where it feels normal, and when you're not doing it, it feels off. Great job

even if someone doesn't wanna cut or doesn't have any big reason to cut out alcohol, at the very least it makes sense to reset your tolerance periodically. chit ramps up fast and takes the fun out of it anyway

I buy a fifteen pack of Rainier beer every week or so for $25CDN. Most nights I drink between 1 and 3 beers with the occasional night like tonight where I think I drank 4.

Stick with beer and wine and you'll be fine for the most part. There's no need for an all or nothing approach.

If you're drinking too much you are probably neglecting important aspects of your life. Pay more attention to those other aspects and you will find you don't have time to drink so much.

It isn't rocket science.

That's good advice from an experienced drinker. Young bucks take note

It's not rocket science m8 but it can be hard to see clearly when you are in it. The brain can justify some crazy things when you're not thinking straight. I was stuck in a rut. Mirin' your self control, but I want to cut it completely, for the time being atleast. Baby steps

I'm not a one or two beer a night kind of guy. If I start I drink until I pass out. At my last job if I'd have a beer at lunch then I'd hit the liquor store on the way home to finish what I started. I'm a functioning alcoholic so I have no problem still going to work or to the gym. Just moderation isn't a thing. It has to be all or nothing for me. Beer isn't worth trying to rationalize that.

Mostly sober. I'll break down every 2-3 months for a few days and feel like absolute **** from bloating and hangover and it'll get me to stop for awhile. Birthday was a couple of weeks ago so I went full retard for a couple of days. The triggers have been getting less and less though I feel like I can push it to at least Thanksgiving this time. Just do it a day at a time. Biggest thing for me is to remember how bad I feel when I drink and to remind myself it isn't worth it anymore.

I do feel better already. I can see the difference in my face, losing that bloat feels good man. I'm ready, no turning back.

Good luck bro, been 22 days for me and I've only just started being able to sleep for more than 4 hours a night, also don't get terrible night sweats no more and it's done wonders for depression and anxiety, chit timing for summer but can't put a price on good health

I've lived straight edge for most of my life so I don't think I'll ever be able to kick my vices fully.

However I've started to heavily moderate my alcohol consumption, and frequency of "herbal essences".
