As an old-cel, I now think REM is a pretty cool band

They were always around when we were kids in the 90s but we were deep into punk rock which eventually transitioned into thrash metal and progressive rock so, while REM were always around with their singles, they were on the sidelines, largely unconsidered. I'm getting old and have been listening to more 80s/90s alternative rock and started discovering their really early stuff which is actually really good. Bitching bass lines. Here's such an example. Was jamming on bass to this song yesterday. Lots of fun, highly recommended for my fellow bass players.

I'm a huge sucker for Rickenbacker basses especially so this video made me half mast srs.

Nice. I only started listening to Scorpions along with all the other classic rock and metal I got into after the age of 13. My dad always had this stuff on when I was a kid. He was particularly fond of Pink Floyd so there was lots of that playing in my house/car.

I liked REM in their college station radio days. You couldn't always understand what the singer was saying but the music was good. Fall on Me is a great song I believe.

Some of their later songs were irritating to me though such as ~

Michael Stipe has been quoted as saying he hates that song and wishes he never recorded it.

Check out Guadalcanal Diary- 2x4. I think they're from the same area as REM.

I was into them when I was younger. Kind of grew out of them a bit, probably will never sit through any of their albums but if I hear an older song come on, I'll listen.

I really enjoyed 'Automatic For the People', and a few of their songs through the years. I haven't checked out their back catalog because I don't really do that anymore, completely checking a band out was more of a teenage years thing for me but I can see they're hugely accomplished outside of the album I mentioned too.

My early morning playlist now consists of old REM, Dinosaur Jr, and Smashing Pumpkins. Getting old, boyos.

take out REM and it's a solid start to the day. REM and RHCP are by far the most overrated bands ever, complete garbage the both of them

Here is an early morning listen for when you need a change.

Srs, Jun fukamachi is brilliant piano work.

Yeah I don't listen to much of either. With REM it's really just their first record that I've been jamming through. I don't listen to RHCP at all really. I've jammed a few of their funkier songs on bass.

When I do work on the computer I'm often listening to Japanese piano music such as this (often jazz) or video game music compilations so this is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing!
