Anyone else secretly want to become a tradie?

Sitting inside all day, barely doing anything physical gets pretty monotonous. You make more money doing office work, but fuk me it's not very rewarding.

Kinda want to say fuk it and become a tradie. Always wondered what it would be like to be something like a HVAC repairman. They make decent coin and it doesn't look stressful at all. Wouldn't want to do anything like plumbing because you are literally dealing with chit and piss. There is that miscer who builds cell towers in the middle of nowhere and that looks pretty dope.

Anyway, this concludes my thoughts on becoming a tradie. Thank you for reading.

Not on the grunt work level, but as far as overlooking a construction site of a parking garage or something is extremely satisfying (but not sure it outweighs the stress). I have been watching a car 6 story car garage being built for the past several months, and it is very cool to see. Would love to be part of the installation of something, but would not want to do the grunt work to be honest, but I can 100% see how it would be rewarding, but feels good to just walk by them in this scorching southern heat and grab my snack and drink and walk back into the A/C dead srs.

it depends....

making custom furniture/high end cabinetry is A LOT DIFFERENT than doing some road surfacing in the middle of the summer....

or working on a resto-mod vintage porsche is A LOT DIFFERENT than doing oil changes at the chevy dealership.

95% of tradie jobs seem like rope-inducers.

After working on my moms roof, I'd love to be a part time tradie. But it has to be specifically part time. Its not something I would want to do everyday. Residential roofing I like in particular.

I learned alot about myself and society when I volunteered.

I'd have a good reason to actually get a truck. lol. Lots of ****gy dudes driving around trucks and they don't even haul chit.

Any job can be stressful or fun depending how hard your boss works you and how much you get paid. Once you have experience, you can start your own business, but customers will haggle you or try to get out of paying somehow. Others will tip you and be greatful.

As I work on my vehicles to avoid paying mechanic fees, I'm tempted to become one. But the work can be dangerous. A bolt might break. Something can already be broken or stripped and they blame you. And some issues can be hard to diagnose.

Have any of you thought about going to the building inspector route? I've never been one, but from what I can understand it's 50/50 office and field work. You're going to different construction projects and inspecting certain trades.

Currently I'm an Assistant Project Manager and don't like, thinking I specialize in the building inspecting.

My job (controls engineer) is a mix of office and field work. Normally I'm itching to get back out of the office, but it's been over 100 for the past 3 weeks. Plus, half the time they're running a diesel frac pump in the next bay blowing 2500 hp worth of hot air out of the radiator and the combination is absolutely brutal.

I'm a tradie PM. Sometimes with the stress of it honestly, I wouldn't mind doing some mindless tradie work and going home at the end of the day with half the amount of chit on my mind.

I use office in broad sense, but yes WFH and make decent money with college degree. Constantly indoors and not doing any manual labor. I feel like I was meant to build things, yet here I am in front of computer all day.

In Australia being a tradie is an easy path to becoming a builder and then multimillionaire by age 30

So if I could have had my time again then yeah I’d probably become a tradie/builder

Instead I went down the complete opposite path and it’s too late to change because of how the apprenticeship system works here
