Pet insurance? Trying to insure my pitbull

Lol just kidding. Need insurance for my GSP (see avi) does anyone have any specific company? I already use usaa for everything so I may go with them.

I've never been a fan of pet policies. Perhaps someone else here has had different luck, but I've seen a few people have denied claims on the basis of something like "breed predisposition to ailment".

Yeah I heard a lot of them are scams. He’s prone to accidents though. Probably spent 2k on treatment so far. He’s a year old.

I think it is a good idea. At least after the first year or two you get them to see where their health is at.

Can't vouch for specific company though.

How old are you guys? He’s an awesome dog. Not aggressive and I take him everywhere with me. He can be weary of strangers but not aggressive. We had a roommate a while ago with a cat and he did not like the cat at all…. So I’d suggest not having cats. We’ve got 3 other dogs one being small and the small one Will bully him lol. Does need a good bit of exercise and he will fetch all day. I’ve been lucky with him I read a lot of gsp pages and some are way higher energy than him. He is a crybaby and demands to be under the cover with you though lol

Both 40 and we have a 5 y/o daughter. Looking at GSP's and Weimaraner's. How much exercise does he need?

Hm I play with him a good 30-45 min of fetch and he’s pooped. He’s always down to play though. I try to spend as much time as possible with him, they really are Velcro dogs

i have my pet plan (now called fetch)

I feel like they decline just about anything they can. but I still carry it because its better to have if something presents itself.

I have two labradoodles and I think it runs me 27/month/dog

No lifetime maximum is a huge deal. And I don't trust a lot of the smaller companies to still exist in 5-10 years when the pet is older and really needs it.

I decided years ago to pass on pet insurance.

The way it works (when I looked at it anyway) was you needed an annual insurance-specific wellness exam plus a $500 deductible. When looking at the cost of premiums, wellness exam, and premiums as long as anything that happened was less than $1000 in the first year I was money ahead.

I guess depends on the breed. My mixed breed mutt we adopted off a reserve hasn't had a problem for the vet to look at in 4 years.

My gsp is 1 1/2 and already been to the er vet twice. He jabbed a stick in his soft pallet and needed to be put to sleep and stitches…. 1100 right there

It is a gamble.

If I had it to do again with our French Bulldog I would have probably taken insurance, but considering the bills for both over the years dogs we have about broke even.

The Frenchie's vet bill was a fluke accident, I guess that's what insurance is for but we managed it.

Absolutely don’t get a Weimaraner unless you run multiple miles a day. They often are neurotic and must get out for at least an hour of intense exercise every day. A 2-3 mile walk won’t do chit for them and is at best a warmup.

Lmao at don’t get a cat. It all depends on their prey drive and training.
