Using different address for car insurance?

If you own a rental property and the rates are way cheaper there than where you live, would you just say fuk it and use that address for car insurance instead of your main place?

Would your tenants be cool with you getting mail there?

Just raise the rent on your tenants to offset your increased car insurance.

Are you actually that hard pressed to need to save $12/month.......I mean c'mon you've got rental properties so you must be ballin.

It would be only be the new insurance policy mail and driver's license. Not constant mail going to them.

It's a $1000 difference man which the insurance broker quoted for the new address.

This. I think most insurances are a scam. But if you're gonna pay for it, at least do it to the letter and make sure your policy is valid.

I've heard some weird chit, like your house burns down, then the insurance company states you didn't have industry standard locks on your front door (nothing to do with the fire), therefore your policy is void and they're not paying.

Something really obvious like using an address that isn't yours will be the perfect excuse for them to not pay out.

How would they find out your real address in the case of an accident?

You or someone in your family gets into an accident and while giving a statement says they were driving home, and give the real home address on accident.

If it’s a big payout, they could hire someone you follow you for a bit to see if you’re frauding.

You live here - A
You Work here - B
You tell insurance you live here - C

You get into an accident between A and B and out of the way of C. It is during your commute and you let it slip on the police report that you were going home at A. Your insurance adjuster does a bit of homework and realizes you were traveling the opposite direction of getting to C. They investigate and realize you are defrauding them and deny your claim.

Yeah if you slip up like that then it's on you for sure. There are so many ways:
1) Say you've been staying at your parents place while renovating the main house.
2) Work from home life drastically changes this kind of probability.

That's not true. I sell insurance and although I'm not on the claims side, I know locks would have nothing to do with a fire claim. Nor anything to do with locks, really. The biggest sht sandwiches I have seen people have to eat were due to faulty installation (never get radiant ceiling heat) and rainwater runoff (considered flood and universally excluded).
