Travelling with Contiki? - Thailand?
misc travellers, have you ever booked a vacation through Contiki? How was it?
Pros/Cons?
Those that have been to Thailand, I'm going to do one of these, which would you recommend?:
https://www.contiki.com/en-ca/tours/...=860#itineraryEast Islands
https://www.contiki.com/en-ca/tours/...=861#itineraryWest Islands
Doing Iceland in a few months, will do Thailand at the end of the year. It seems appealing being able to book a week or two away and have someone else plan it all for you (that's the part I hate most about travelling).

I hate the planning part, but in every other part of my life I have everything pretty tightly scheduled. The thought of going and winging it is "terrifying" to me lol. We'll see how the Iceland trip goes.I'd avoid Koh Samui - it's like tourist trap hell on that island. Koh Phangan was excellent when I was there about 8 years ago. Nice resorts, great beaches, chill bars, everything is cheap. Some of the employees at my hotel invited me to a small nighttime beach party and I fuked one of the front desk girls lulz. Never went to Koh Tao but heard it mostly catered to the scuba divers/snorkelers
To answer your question I'd personally just buy a plane ticket to Bangkok and figure it out from there. Trains/ferrys/busses are cheap and easy to navigate. I think you'd have a lot more fun doing your own thing on your own schedule. I look back on my 3 weeks there as being an awesome and unpredictable adventure, probably wouldn't have been the same if I did a pre-planned trip.

I did a contiki trip in Europe
Pros
-no planning, just show up
-tons of fun, meet great people
-they know about the bar/club scene and have connections to get in without waiting in lines
-better than going solo as you always have someone to hang with
Cons
-you don’t really get to see the cities you visit as you’re there for 1.5 days each
-25% of it is spent on the coach
-overpriced, although not by much
-the crowd is very young (I was 26 and one of the older ones)

I remember when looking into it though being worried about being too old but tbh probably fine if you’re younger than like 32

Reconsidering the thought of just flying to Thailand for one week though (the contiki trips are 7-8 days). Flying by myself and staying for 2 weeks might be a better idea.
Need some recommendations of what to go see while I'm there (no ladyboys, thank you). Koh Phangan sounds great, and scuba diving in Koh Tao sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.
