Why is she not owning up to her degenerate behavior that put her in that situation to begin with? Lots of Americans do/did jail time in Canada and other foreign countries for similar offenses and I don't see them crying to the President for a free pass. Personal responsibility not even once..

CBD oil is legal to transport across provincial borders in Canada but is illegal to transport into and out of the country. Lots of Americans get tossed in Canadian jail and subsequently banned for life from re-entry for exactly what Griner did. Russia has a no tolerance policy on marijuana (cbd included) and she was aware of said law but chose to be a dumbass. Ofcourse Russia sentencing law on the matter is more strict than Canada's so it sucks to be her.

This is 100% true - if Trump were in the White House right now, Griner would be in the USA shootin hoops. But neither she nor her supporters will ever think that.

In any case, this is kind of like the Otto Wermbeir (spl?) situation. We'll probably never actually know if she really did break the local law or not, or if it was planted evidence to rattle the USA's cage. So I'd rather err on the side of caution and hope she gets free. I don't have any desire to wallow in schadenfreude
