Death is weird when you get older....

When I was a kid, the only funerals I've gone to were old relatives I barely knew in their 70s-80s. Now I'm in my 30s and 2 close family contacts have died in the past year. One the owner of a business my whole family has worked at died of COVID at only 46, the other a family friend died of health issues in her early 60s. Wasn't really in close contact recently maybe 3-4 conversations in the past year, but whenever I'd hit em up we could easily have an hour long conversation. I specifically was entertaining starting a business with the business owner...

As a kid, death was sad of course, but seemed far off and an abstract thing that happened and really didn't affect me. My grandparents, dog, cat, same. It's been several months and I think of these two people literally every day. Maybe I've been lucky, maybe it's an age thing, but the permanence really sets in now. Chit sucks man. /dear diary

Yea as you get older it gets more common to see the people you know and love depart. I lost my mother, both grandmothers, my aunt and three cousins (in their 40's) in the span of 3 years (2016-2019).

Unfortunately that’s part of aging.
I have one grandmother, she’s 103, she’s still going strong. But my parents are in their late 60’s early 70’s and in bad health. My sister has cancer and currently in the hospital.

As you get even older the people around you will also start getting illnesses and fade before your eyes.

Lol yes. I guess we all go through this at some point. Acknowledging and digesting it seems worthwhile though.

I still see no point for us to die

What weird or different to me is how the internet/information age plays into.

Like back when I was a kid you didn't really know much about when and how celebs died.

Now we instantly know everything.

So like you were saying the same thing but also with celebs.

For example Kobe Bryant, Patrice O'Neal, Norm Macdonald, Prince, Michael Jackson, etc.

All these people I either grew up watching or was really into just dying pretty early.

Maybe I just didn't care when I was a kid but now I feel like people (or maybe just myself) are super-aware.
The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.

That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

they had a lot of that back in the day too, Janis Joplin for example. my Pops was a big fan of her work and she died of a overdose or something

I have a lot of memories of people where I'm now the only one that can remember these places and events. Some of these events are rather recent. Sometimes I feel like I'm just left behind.

I realized a big reason why my grandmother was so depressed. Everything she knew had changed and everyone she knew was dead. She often said she has nobody to relate to. Now I kind of feel that way. She's gone now. I hope there really is an afterlife and she's happier now. I hope they wait for me.

Know that feel. Several of my friends around the same age as me(36) died in the last 2 years. Sometimes I’ll wanna call them up.. then remember that they are dead. Sucks.

Damn that's tough. There's very few people I can completely relate to right now, can't imagine losing them.

Just saying seems like back then there was a lot more of "whatever happened to that person?".

The other thing I think about is how long it takes to forget about people.

Everyone always says "I think about so and so every day".

Last really close person that passed was a good friend like we hung out I'd say a frequency of almost every other day while I knew him.

He passed away 02/05/17 and the only reason I remember the exact date is because it was SB when Brady had the comeback versus Atlanta.

I'd be a liar if I said I think about him every day, probably thought about him every day for a few months and gradually less and less.

Now it's hardly ever that I think of him to be honest.

I'd like to get some little tat to symbolize him and kind of remind me that life is short, happens fast- one day you're a kid without a care in the world, the next you're grey and old and knowing death is approaching, so make the most of it.

That's also part of the reason I love to exercise and eat healthy because I feel like that's showing appreciation for the gift of good health.

Too many take it for granted until it's gone and that's officially when **** gets real.

When carrying on starts to become a chore rather than just something we do.

My mom passing away in June did this to me as well. It’s an indescribable feeling. It sucks. Also the reality of when someone is gone, they are gone. Everything they did their entire life basically goes with them. I get semi panic attacks thinking what I would do if my wife mysteriously passed every now and then too. Sucks man

We were born too late to map out the earth. Too early to explore the galaxy. Death is our only final frontier.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

2018 is when it all started. First I found out that a girl I used to hang out with named Laura died of an OD but I knew she had ovarian cancer and told us she beat it. Then found out my mentor Jim died. He also had cancer and told me he beat it. He lied because he didn't want a pitty party. Then a girl I went to school with and we were hanging out with named Brandi died. Then a girl I had been seeing off and on named Tana died from choking to death when she had a seizure. Then my kitty Abigail died. Sweet beautiful Ragdoll cat. Also my grandmother's cat and my grandmother took that one hard. Then in 12/2019 my grandmother died. I'll say all of them kind of lucked out as they died in good times before Clown World started. I kind of got a break it seemed until last December when my dog Sara died. She was almost 14 and my everything. It was then where I kind of hit rock bottom with depression. Like all that death came and hit me at once although before I could maintain. Sara dying was what broke me. I finally started to come out of it and then my German Shepherd Heidi ran out and got hit by a car. Not even 2 years old. I lived for them, so what's the point of being here?

So I got a puppy last week. She's so perfect. It's made me so emotional lately but when I hold her it feels so good. She's going to be a beautiful German Shepherd. Now I'm so damn scared of anything happening to her.

It’s a strange thing. I already have people that I look forward to seeing on the other side, and I’m not even 40 yet. I imagine that when I am older, I will have at least as many people I’d like to meet in death as I have around me in life.

Too much real life. The saddest thing about getting older is seeing my parents age and knowing they wont be here forever. Thank God they're healthy but I think about it everyday. RIP to anyone's parents that passed.

Edit: i work in the ICU where patients die everyday, especially during covid. Real eye-opener

Surprised it's hitting you so slowly. I've had 2 close friends my age die in their 30s and lots of classmates. It's really weird when someone you saw and did things with every day dies.

It's surreal. Looked up an old girlfriend once and she died in a car wreck 4 years earlier. I wanted to see her again and ask how her life had been.

For some reason, I also hope I get to outlive my childhood freinds who turned into disrespectful, alcoholic douchebags. That would be satisfying to me for some wierd reason.

It's actually kind of cool to know that the universe that we live in will eventually turn cold and dark.

We were lucky to experience it while it was still warm and vibrant.

I’m in my 30s and a lot of people my age that I went to school with already passed away. It’s crazy…
Car accidents
War in Iraq
Medical issues
Drug overdoses
Shot during home robbery

I didn’t think so many people would already be gone. When you young, you only thing death mostly occurs to old people.
