Yes. I believe the way it works to calculate it is they look at the distribution of the total number of households and families including those with no income.Median household income is the income cut-off where half of the households earn more, and half earn less, and in this case, compared across the whole state for each. Theaverageon the other hand will consequently be a lot higher because it gives more weight to those making like $400k+.
That said, my base pay is double the OP's link's single earner median for my state. If you count the bonuses / overtime it's probably 2.8-3x that.

current state: making double of one person median (total comp. so bonus and pension).
New job/state: slightly less, like 1.85x one person median income. but much more overall, and a stepping stone to be a baller (initial people management role)
this is also a fun one:https://dqydj.com/income-percentile-by-age-calculator/

If you’re not making multiples of the median income in your state it’s already over

Actually shocked by hawaii numbers
I get why property market is so high there, but outside of tourism and military there’s like zero industry. If you work in a restaurant or doing some blue collar labor work on the big island just don’t see it paying much yet median family of 4 makes 125k, that’s a very high median number

According to that table, I'm a family of 8.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I once made a thread saying my buddy is making USD600k in NYC and the misc all chimed in and said that is nothing in NYC and he'd be living pay check to pay check.
According to this the average salary there is 63k?
Edit: I guess this is the state but even with a quick google search avg in NYC is 69k

Always fun to mention the Wood Buffalo (Fort Mac) area in Alberta where the median household income right now is $175k. If you make $350k there, you’re just at the higher end of middle class relative to the local population

Though there are plenty of people making under 100k in NYC living there and I don’t know how they do it , even if you plan on saving nothing.
I have friends with HH incomes in that city similar to yours and they complain about COL all the time

As a state, probably accurate yes....but for example Georgia is probably offset a lot by Atlanta and conversely by small bum-fuk towns..... as I'm sure is the case with many other states. The area of GA I live in has an average HOUSEHOLD income of like $47k and the average 1 person income is like $26k.
I was in an even smaller town for work about 6 years ago and the average household there was in the $30's.....but the cost of living was cheap as chit.
Vs Atlanta where I know several people (from college) making between 70-90k and still have roommates in their early 30's

Many people have very little in net worth, and then you have the top %ers who own a massively disproportionate amount of the assets and who see outsized gains through asset appreciation while those who can't accumulate assets fall further and further from the top
We need less concentration of wealth in the upper %s, the inequality is obscene

Median income has too many other metrics. If you break down individuals, you find that median age is different for each race, there is a few, to several thousand, difference between individuals. Keep in mind that the average does not show the extremes until you break them down into individual form
This is why I don’t like household income statistics. It’s misleading. Instead, look at individuals, their age, their race…it shines a better light on where you are
