How can anyone live in NYC semi srs

City is dirty as fuark. Sidewalks never clean, buildings everywhere absolutely no escape, tiny apartments with chit tier amenities (no laundry machines, central ac, elevator, dishwasher, etc is norm). Loud, noisy, smells, and if you want to have any hobby that isn’t sitting around a table acting cultured and buying over priced cocktails good luck (ex: running, cycling, sports, etc). Expensive as get out too, you can make 200k and still feel poor.

Yes there is some appeal. A ton of HBBs. Great nightlife and restaurant scene. World class museums, theaters, etc. but if you’re an outdoorsy or fit person city is basically hell. There are only so many times you can go into a tiny shoebox gimmick bar or restaurant before it gets stale. Can see the appeal if you are in your 20s , single, looking to have fun. But the city for sure has a shelf life and don’t understand how anyone can live there long term and not hate themselves. If you visit there you realize your itinerary literally is just eating, drinking, eating, drinking, and maybe going to an art exhibit which is just an excuse to drink and that’s it

This is NYC specific. Other cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, etc at least have a nice mix of green space, ability to own a car, etc while all the same amenities of a large city.

Discuss.
