At least twice a year I get some random person in a store starting up a small talk conversation and then about 3 sentences into it I can see that it's heading towards a "multiple revenue stream" pitch.

It's happened multiple times in Target, on the parking lot bus to the airport, most recently at Lowe's.

Example:

(Me looking at ceiling fans)

Dude - "Looking to replace some ceiling fans too?"
Me - "Yeah, have a 90's house that needs some updating"
Dude - "Oh yeah same here, gold fixtures everywhere"
Me - random bull****
Dude - "So what do you do for work?"
Me - CEO 10k/day
Dude - "Oh yeah I'm a teacher/office worker/whatever and I just started with this new company so I can get multiple income streams, it's such and such, how do you feel about having multiple income streams?"
Me - CEO 10k/day, make up bull**** about how I'm a real estate investor so he knows not to continue his pitch because it'd be a waste of time
Dude - "Oh yeah, well cool nice meeting you"

How often does this **** happen to you? Do I just need to start wearing headphones everywhere I go?

Only happened once, before the MLM stuff was so widespread. I didn't even know they existed. A post office worker got chatting with me when I tried to send a package. "Come check out this event". Blah blah.
