How many of your jobs are "Recession Proof"?

And what will you be doing to combat the potential issues if your job isnt recession proof? Learning new skills now? Got a side hustle? Etc.

I remember in late 00's chit was tough out there for people. Some of y'all were old enough to see your parents have to suffer through getting laid off or whatever. So I know y'all gotta be thinking of the same

I work in healthcare and the company I work for is understaffed so I think I'll be fine. If not I can always go somewhere else.

I happen to be high up in an industry that is getting HAMMERED right now. It's part of the reason I left a major company and joined a smaller one recently... there's just one of me and my skill set now so hopefully it creates job security.

End of the day though... my industry is hurting, but my "job" is in high demand and I have great experience. Hopefully wouldn't take long to find another executive high paying job.

Worst, worst case - while I am the bread winner, my girl makes low 6 figs in a government job she couldn't lose if she tried, and we have savings and investments.

But it's definitely on my mind. My company and my industry are down like never before and I'm starting to look at contingency plans.

Good for you for looking around at other options and worst case scenarios.. nothing worse than someone who deludes themselves into thinking "it'll never happen to me".

Currently at a company where I bring a lot of value so don’t think I’ll get laid off, but I am looking to job hop which is a bit risky.

Going to build up my savings to give myself 2-3 months of living expenses. I’ve realized now that the job market has definitely cooled off which sucks.

Been with this company a year and hate it so much.

What industry do you work in?
I've worked in a handful of industries in finance and strategy. Currently a finance exec. Rather not say my current industry as it's a small world (in general and in the industry) and like to remain anonymous here.

Let's just say stock prices and valuations of these public companies have fallen like 300% over the last 3 years and it's not going to get better anytime soon.

I have finance experience in other industries and should be able to find another job pretty easily, but this industry was supposed to be a golden ticket to early retirement for those of us with stock options.... and it's very much not that right now. We all got punched in the d!ck. But we knew the risks. There's still a lot of upside years down the road.

But it's definitely a little depressing when 3 years ago inwas planning to retire by 40/45. 3 years later the stock options I was going to retire on are nearly worthless. And I had to front nearly 100k of my own money just to get access to the options.

I paid off my mortgage with a pickup truck, a cheap dolly and muscle. Live near a college town and they're always moving, I could make more in 2-3 hours after work than I did during a day of work. I did have moving experience from summer jobs so I knew what I was doing, but overall I loved it.

Weapons, so far so good. Hit a small bottle neck because of transport issues and permits taking slightly longer to get done (not on the US side). Nothing major though and money is still rolling in. I think there will always be money to be made in this game, just need to be adapt to changes.

My industry is solid... semiconductors aren't going anywhere, and it's a mega overhead business that doesn't really save money by cutting engineers. It's going to take 1000 employees to design and test that new CPU, whether you sell 1 million CPUs or 10 million. The joke in industry is that the first chip off the line costs a billion dollars, the second one costs 50 cents.

That being said, I work at a super layoff happy company that has never had a problem firing people during any business downturn.
