Is there much difference (apart from 5 inches obvs) picture/viewing wise

Would i notice a difference if i had a 65 inch in my (average sized) living room compared to a 70 inch

Why go that big? My 24 inch works fine.

wanted to make a similar thread yesterday. what do you brahs think, should I buy a 65" OLED or a 86" monster for basically the same price? is there really a huge difference if Im not some tech nerd? would be gaming on it also

65 is the sweet spot for most room sizes IMO. Only go bigger if your room is like a corridor and you sit miles from the screen

As for actual TV's. If you want blinding bright HDR and deep blacks but don't want an OLED and don't want to spend thousands, get the QN90A.
If you prefer black blacks, get an LG or Sony OLED. Either option is HDMI 2.1 so brilliant choices for gaming.

Neither am I, no point having massive televisions in 1080 etc when television is still broadcasting in SD.

Exactly-it has gone crazy with screen size & picture quality. Not getting anything over 720p when pretty much everything is still broadcasting in 576i & I am watching old stuff in 480p.

Who buys a TV to watch live programming though? It's all about 4k movies/gaming and 4k streaming apps these days. You can hardly even buy 1080p TVs anymore thats how last gen they are

4k sports is pretty legit

Not into any of that stuff-probably my age though. My eyes can't really tell much difference between 720 & 1080, but again I grew up watching SD television. Several years back I got a top end Sony one-couldn't even get a good signal in my area so it kept going blocky & couldn't play any DVD's on it as they looked like total garbage. So I sent it back & bought the 24 inch LG instead.

Most of what I use it for is old footage of Snooker, Cricket, Tennis, Wrestling, MMA etc on drives & so got a 720P. Films look amazing to my eyes in 720, as I am used to SD broadcasts. Up close anything not HD & we only have 5 or so HD channels in the UK on Freeview look pretty crappy, so why get a 1080 or above with a giant screen & make it even worse?

Always pick the tv with better picture quality, as long as it’s at least 65”.

For gaming you want 120hz refresh rate, vibrant colors with high contrast ratio and 4k resolution. Preferably OLED, but Samsungs QLED’s look amazing.

Basically stick with Samsung, Sony or LG.

And coincidentally, everything that makes a tv good for gaming, also makes it good for streaming movies and shows.

LG is great-my one you can make the old stuff full screen & barely lose anything. Samsung you were stuck watching it with massive black bars going down the side & some a tiny little square in the middle of the screen.

How old are you? I always assumed you were 25-30. The jump from 720 to 1080 isnt huge, but from 1080 to 4k is just a whole nother level.
I havn't used Freeview in years, why bother when Iplayer etc exists so you can pick and choose what you want to watch, when you want.
But at 24 inches you're right there's no point in having 4k unless you sit like 12 inches from the screen.

Just turned 46. I use Iplayer to watch BBC stuff most of the time, although BBC 1, 2, ITV, C4 & C5 all have HD channels on Freeview now as well from 101-105, I think the kids cartoons channels broadcast in it as well. Prefer to record from ITV & C4 as they put loads of ads on their online players that you are forced to watch, as opposed to recording it & fast forwarding through them which is a lot easier.

Mostly use it to watch old sports stuff & films-I am easily pleased though, 720P shows & films blow my mind & while people always moan about the inbuilt speakers & how you need speakers/soundbars, I find it great & have to turn the volume down it is so loud/clear even on a low number for my ears.

Guess that is one advantage of growing up in the 1980's & 1990's with analogue signals & small screen set in giant bits of wood. We didn't even have remote controls for years-you had three channels until late 1982 when C4 started & you had to get up & switch the Rediffusion dial on the wall to change a channel. Our first VCR was a top-loader with no remote-you had to press the button to open the slot for the tape, insert it down onto the holders & then close it & press play on the machine. We even used to in summer sometimes get a French signal intruding on Meridian News or whatever you were watching until the 2000's.

Idk but I recently got a 65 inch Samsung. It's been a long time since I bought a new tv and I was surprised at how good they look and inexpensive they are compared to what they used to have. Don't forget in your price you'll want a brace and possibly a shelf.

How far away will you be? Always spend the money and go bigger up to a certain size. I believe over 77” is when the pricing gets crazy. For example we bought a new OLED at 77” earlier this year, but going to 83” would’ve raised the price over 30%.

Coming from a beautiful 60” Samsung plasma (fn8500 series), this OLED looks beautiful and the screen size is great. I personally went with the C1 line form LG as the C2 was still 5 months away, but any flagship model OLED from the big dogs will look great. I sometimes game on mine and it feels like playing on my PC monitors in terms of input delay or lag.

Make sure you feed it proper 4K and HDR for the best picture. Don’t skimp out and get a TV that only does HDR10. Make sure it can handle Dolby Vision at least.

I downgraded from a 1080, but it is better for my needs-old footage that is of average quality 480p, being it is mostly 1980's & 1990's sports & ripped off a VHS.

The size comes down to the space your TV is going in, the distance your sofa or chairs are from the TV and if you're willing to spend a little extra. If your sofa is somewhat close to the TV and you can't push it back any further, then you may want to opt for the smaller size so the TV doesn't get out of your field of vision.

If you have the space with the sofa a decent distance from the TV and willing to spend more, then go with the 70"

If you are going to be buying a TV that size, make sure you get a quality brand like Samsung or LG. Don't even think about an off-brand budget TV just to save a few bucks.

I personally have the LG OLED 65 C1 and love it.

Depends on how far away from the tv you sit. I can't imagine going bigger than 65" in my living room. When I first put it up I thought that maybe I went a little too big, but I got used to it.

I bought a 55 inch and have regretted not going bigger ever since. The bigger the better OP
