Why are internet nerds obsessed with that giant purple Xmen creature (thanos)?

Just cant avoid the references no matter where I go (ig, misc, google search...)

I only watched the first movie. I think I was like 21 yo and I was the oldest guy in the cinema. Was full of 14 yo kids.

Anyways wtf is so special about the purpleman?
