Best gym shoes for bodybuilding
In the past I have used the Nike Metcon 4 and the Reebok Nano X.
These are of course shoes intended for the crossfit market.
However, for the past 4 years I have almost exclusively been doing ‘bodybuilding workouts’ - i.e. lifting weights.
My achilles is messed up, so I’m not going to be running, jumping rope, plyometrics etc.
Is it finally time to switch to those unaesthetic weightlifting shoes?
What shoes does the misc recommend for a bodybuilding type workout, within a limit of lets say $400?

Would rather wear flip flops than shoes specifically for bodybuilding

and op, it really depends on what you're doing in the gym. If you're in the squat rack, a lifting shoe is best, but if you're just doing cardio or sport conditioning drills you want a running shoe and something with grip underneath.
and even then its all going to come down to how a shoe fits on your foot. Don't be a woman and buy some shoe because it looks cool or because its in style and torture yourself with something that will NEVER fit properly even when broken-in (like I did). Unfortunately, sometimes those boring New Balance grandpa shoes are your best bet.

I've got some news for you. Shoes don't have anything to do with muscle gainz. Just wear something comfortable and if you're squatting, OHPing or DL-ing a lot, do it barefoot or find shoes that have flat soles.

Stick with Metcons or Nanos if you like them. Doesn't matter that they are marketed to crossfit, as long as they feel good and are supportive for your workouts.
I do a lot of lifting barefoot but that usually only works for home gym crew. Though there are minimalist shoes you could try if that's appealing and you don't have a home gym.

Thanks all.
I am wondering why so many recommend shoes with a flat sole. I understand having a flat sole for deadlifts, but someone even recommended for squats.
My initial thoughts was just to go with Romaleos or Adipower, but I don’t know how well these would work for anything but squats.
Can anyone elaborate on weightlifting shoes v flat soled shoes for lifts others than squats / deads?
I have tried working out in sneakers, but after trying and using shoes designed for for working out, I much prefer those. From a cost perspective I get it, but money is really no issue - hense, I just want the best for the purpose (within reason).

Nike Metcons / Reebok Nanos truly are the best workout shoe period.
They have the most stable base, without being a solid based oly weightlifting shoe.
They have a slightly elevated heel to aid in squats, but still flat flat enough for deadlifts.
They are made to also be able to do plyo / running work, so they are actually comfortable as well.
I stick with Metcons because I prefer their styling more, and that there Swoosh account (IYKYK).
Haven’t had Nanos since the 6’s (possibly best shoe ever), but hear the X are great. Basically any even numbered generation Nano is a safe bet.
Vans and chucks aren’t horrible, but the heel cup just isn’t supportive enough for me, and if I’m going to wear a totally flat sole then I prefer Jordan 1 lows. Which are another good workout shoe, but not as bulky as Dunks and AF1’s.
Air Max 1’s and 90’s aren’t terrible either if you are looking for a shoe with an elevated heel.
Newer Gen Air Max, basketball shoes, running shoes, etc are all too soft standing overhead lifts, deadlifts, and squats.

Metcons (Nike in general) are too narrow in the toe box, and I don’t have wide feet. Nano X is much better for sprawling your toes and gripping the floor as well as the PR II.

You need specific shoes to do bodybuilding? Da fuk?
Just pick a shoe and be done with it. Not like you are buying a purse for yourself.

OP, just buy comfortable shoes. Deadlifting? Take them off.
If you want good quality athletic shoes, go to york athletics. Most comfortable and best quality on the market.

Does anyone use wrestling shoes?
They are super light and flat-footed. I haven't seen anyone mention them, but I'm really asking vs suggesting.

The Nano X’s are the best workout shoe I have ever worn, but unfortunately they completely changed the design for Nano 1 and 2. I’ll give them a try, as well as the new Metcons.
Perhaps I can find some X’s online, if neither of these fit as well. My current X’s somehow lost the gripping after I was caught in heavy rain, even though I had them in my backpack.
Imo it’s quite ridiculous to say that it doesn’t matter what shoe you use to workout in. But to each their own.

Ngl squatting and deadlifting barefoot, being able to spread your toes is the best srsly
Also being able to wear dri fit short shorts or just squatting in your tightie whities is a huge bonus
