When I was a tradie I got up at 4:30-5:30am so the crew could hit the road early. Those were the glory days of when a cigarette and an energy drink was all I needed for motivation.

A lot of guys work non-union for a few years and then test to get their book, but it usually shows in their work and abilities. If you apply yourself you can learn a LOT in that 5 years, and I highly recommend anyone starting out in a trade to go the union apprenticeship route if it's an option in their area.

How often do you hurt yourself working by smashing your fingers or whatever?
Do you have to work outside often?
Does the work impact your back or knees and can you see yourself doing it when you're 60?
Do you shower before work? If not do you sweat a lot and smell or are you around other dudes who smell?
I have no clue about the tradie life.

Do you have to work outside often?Almost never
Does the work impact your back or knees and can you see yourself doing it when you're 60?To an extent, but maintenance is far less brutal on the body than construction. We've got a guy in my shop pushing 65 that is still pretty spry for an old guy. I'm the youngest at age 35 besides one apprentice.
Do you shower before work? If not do you sweat a lot and smell or are you around other dudes who smell?Shower at night crew. I don't sweat much, and I'm usually working on my own anyways.

Do you like your job?
How much you earn/year?
Are you tired when you come home?
Wish you did something else when young?
Are they searching many pipe fitters?
How many hours/week you work?
Does your back hurt?
You have good colleagues?

Do you like your job? The work itself, yes for the most part. Some days suck more than others, but dealing with upper management fukkery is far and away worse than anything I do with my tools.
How much you earn/year? ~$75k if I don't work any OT.
Are you tired when you come home? I come home and lift after work, so no, not really.
Wish you did something else when young? Yeah, started in the trades sooner. I went to JuCo/local university because my old man paid for it, but I didn't have anything I was interested in other than getting drunk and banging sloots so I got a bullchit comm degree. Graduated into the great recession and didn't start my current career until age 27.
Are they searching many pipe fitters? A lot of the old hands are nearing retirement age and there aren't nearly enough apprentices to take their places.
How many hours/week you work? 40
Does your back hurt? Not anymore than most other 35 year olds. I've got a couple old BMX/skateboard injuries that flare up from time to time but nothing really work related.
You have good colleagues? The other tradesmen I work with/around are decent people for the most part. Our facility requires a criminal background check so that weeds out a lot of the degenerates.

I do love me some sugar free Monsters, but I try to limit energy drinks since I know they are chit for you, even the sugar free versions. Mostly drink coffee. Been on a c4 kick lately though when I do have an energy drink.
