How much are you guys paying for groceries?

I have a family of 3, live in NYC. Between trying to eat healthy, and getting specific products for family because of food allergies/dietary needs I range about $400-$500 a month. Meat, dairy/eggs, fruits, nuts, and bread tend to be the most expensive. How about you guys?

Probably $600 per month to feed 2 people (grocery store trips average $150/week). Even at that cost I’m eating a lower quality diet than I’d prefer and skipping supplements.

All of the money and then a little more.

Scrolled my bank account and looks like roughly $500 this month for a family of 2, but I am stockpiling, not just buying for present needs. Just got a little case of 24 cans of tomato soup and a box of 12 Annie's mac and cheese delivered from Amazon last night. There are some good buys on Amazon Fresh and Subscribe & Save if you look for them. At least "good" vs. current supermarket prices in my area.

The soup had a "first order" coupon when I placed the order and it was a little under $18/24 cans of Campbell's. Amazon Fresh has had Goya brand canned beans [best canned beans IMO] still for .99 while the stores are $1.39 to $1.89 a can. I also got cream of chicken soup and maybe cream of mushroom? from Amazon Fresh for .99 each vs. $1.70 to $2 per can in the stores here now.

Just buy cans of dog food, peel the labels off, and sell to Chinese people and tell them it's canned meat, what it technically is.

I'm not sure overall monthly. I buy chicken breast from BJ's cause it's still the cheapest and that's gone up $30-40. in the past few months. I think I was paying about $50 a month for chicken (I eat it 5 days a week) and now it's over $80. I buy my produce at the farmers market and weekly it's usually between $10-20 depending on what I need that week.

Maybe 100 every 2 weeks. Depends if I’m buying just to eat or if I’m buying stuff to have around. But 100 every 2 weeks is about accurate.

I do keep stuff around for the GF though so random snacks here and there.

I got once a week and it's $90-$100 each time and I live alone. I do cook 5-7 times per week though and I don't buy cheap shyt. Also don't eat snacks or buy too much special like yogurt, all kinds of fruit/nuts. I also have a small garden that helps with some things.

This. Usually $135-$150 a week for 2 people. If you're paying $400-$500 a month for a family of 3 I'd say you're doing pretty well.

If you save 30/wk on groceries for 30 years you’ll have an additional 100k at 60 (assuming most miscers are 30)

That’s assuming you don’t die, get chronically ill, get into an accident within those 30 years.

It makes complete sense to live like a peasant for 30 years so you can have that extra 100k when you’re old.

My weekly grocery trip is about $50-60. That includes protein powder when needed. And it's just me. It covers ~80-90% of my meals.

For most things Aldi is a good deal, but yeah, their limited selection does make visits to other stores necessary about once a month. Especially when Aldi offers 1 variety of ____ and you're allergic to one or more of the ingredients (peanut, tree nut, coconut, sesame, & mustard allergies here).

Shop and cook as economically as possible. Protein tends to be the priciest thing, so watch for sales and buy in bulk. Roasted chicken and pork tenderloin (crockpot) tend to be my go-to's to keep things affordable. Cook a big batch of (whatever) on the weekend and lunch is prepped for the week.

1. Why not both?

I'm roughly aiming at 1 year, felt like 2 cans a month for tomato soup was a fair target.

Running around $1.20 to $1.25 a can at the market this would be up to $30. I spent under $18 and I don't have to worry about buying it for awhile.

2. Sorry bb, I can be had, but I'm not for sale. Never have been.

I actually did some batch cooking last night.

- poached chicken for salads or whatever

- orange chicken w/peppers, onion, and snow peas

- butter chicken

- roast pork w/potatoes, celery & onion

Aldi crew. At least for a lot of stuff. I've noticed in general that fresh foods like produce and dairy [cheese] seem to be going bad very quickly, not just from Aldi.

And FYI the Aldi canned salmon is supposed to be awful...cat food. OTOH the corned beef is said to be as good as or better than name brand and is under $4.

I pride myself on my value shopping and take great effort to be imaginative and keep the prices as cheap as I can.

That said I also cook all my own meals and never eat pre packaged crap like ramen and soup and frozen stuff.

Maybe spend $150 - $200 or so a month on food for myself. I also eat many times during the day. Not the cheapest but I eat right as I highly value a proper diet. Doesnt have to be fancy like ribeyes and lobster, just normal meals.

I'm actually kind of curious, but have no idea.

My wife does all the food shopping and she's says we are spending more, but I haven't really noticed it in the overall budget. We have a family of 7, and with kids getting older every year you expect expenditures to go up every year until they start moving out. We've been eating a lot from the garden lately, so maybe we're a little down this month.

That’s pretty good if that’s all you pay for a family. I’m over 100 on myself a week and I also help my gf get stuff for her kids. I do work 2 jobs though and a lot are snacks and energy drinks to keep me going. Main things I get are eggs, hamburger meat, chicken, potatoes Cheerios, Red Bull, sausages, bread. That alive gets up there.

With 7 people I expect something like $600+ a month.

Just because it was nice...video w/food shopping + more for a summer vacation for a family of 6. The mountain biking looks a little scary to me, but the hike was very pretty.

Spent this for stuff they shopped for + stuff from the pantry + 3 "meal in a box" kits they had delivered to their AirB&B for 10 days. I bet the pre-prepped meals for 6 people X 3 would be at least over $100.

Not a bad guess. I asked my wife and she thinks we're around $650. She's thinking we're up around $100 over the last few months due to higher prices, with most attributable to meat and milk.

I skimmed through the vacation video. Some of those hikes looked kind of familiar so I had to go back and check if I'd done them, but I'm pretty sure not. They were in Bryce Canyon, the hikes I did that were similar were in Red Canyon - not far from Bryce and similar scenery.

Some of the hikes down there made me nervous. There were stretches we carried the younger kids, and wouldn't put them down.

I really can't say. I spend quite a bit but also my fridge and freezer are stocked with meat, veggies and a bunch of frozen produce. I keep going ham and stocking up on things when they are on sale. Things like ground beef and steaks have been going on sale more frequently lately.

Also been seeing ads for places selling expired protein powder, protein bars, etc. Getting that stuff for a steal I def am. I'm definitely spending more overall but never buying anything unless it's on a nice discount. Still eating pretty damn well lol.
