I think there's truth to it too. Seems like those that slow down and sit around rotting have worse outcomes for aging. People who stay active seem to have less age related issues. My mom is in her early 70's and still very active. She's not on any meds and walks several miles a day and does her own yard and housework.

I tend to look at it literally like that also. I think the argument could be made for "not slowing down" to mean people who live a fast life of drugs and alcohol -- those people die young so they can't grow old either.

But both my grandmas are almost 90 and keep active and just keep on living. One of my grandmas always says to just keep walking. Her friends all go downhill after they start relying too much on a wheelchair. Obviously, that's sometimes out of a person's control, but I guess in her opinion those people weren't trying hard enough. Lol. But that's the stubborn and hardworking German in her.

Yeah agree about the living fast with alcohol and drugs. Majority don't make it to old age.

And that's great about your grandmas! There are valid reasons for being in a wheelchair but I think for some it's because they stopped staying active and gave up.

Agreed.^^My mom is just like your mom (early 70's and no meds.) She's constantly on the go.

She's just recently started to look old. It makes me sad. It'll make me so sad once she starts slowing down.

I've seen it so many times now. When people stop and just hit the recliner their health appears to decline rapidly. My Swiss grandma could go as long or longer than women 30 years younger. At least until she had a major heart surgery. Sadly that did ground her and she wasn't ever the same.
