Why do so many people have personality disorders nowadays?

Seems like a lot more people have personality disorders in 2022 than before. What is causing this?

They really didn't know much about personality disorders before 2000, and social media has just made it worse as women post photos and white knights constantly validate with "gorgeous" and other comments like that.

You also see more men with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

I think back in the days people were just labeled as eccentric.

Yes exactly people used to just have some of the traits or were a little strange but they didn't display full on personality disorders like now. There's 4 main ones i see all the time now.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Anti Social Personality Disorder
Borderline
OCD

These disorders are different than just having some social anxiety around people or being kind of entitled you have to meet a bunch of different requirements to even get diagnosed with these disorders

It's mainly labeling them and overdiagnosing them to sell more drugs. Big pharma at it. 20 years ago we'd have a weirdo in the kids' friend group or one super active dude and he'd just be the weird kid and not one diagnosed with ADD and clinical depression on a fukkin pill cocktail.

Today the crazy ex bich has borderline. Back in the day she was just just crazy bich.

There are a number of possible explanations for why personality disorders seem to be more common now than in the past. One possibility is that we are simply better at diagnosing them now than we used to be. Another possibility is that our society has become more stressful and chaotic, which can trigger the development of personality disorders.

only problem is you can't cure borderline or a bipolar woman no matter how many pharmaceuticals you give her.

Increased awareness, and also people getting away from their support systems. If a girl lives in the city she grew up with, there will be people to keep her in check. If she moves away and no longer cares what people think, she can operate much more recklessly.

There’s a new med used for Cluster B and I find it really helpful but I won’t post it due to the rules.

Bipolar has to be treated with meds. Borderline is treated with DBT and meds.

We can just accept the reality that most women are a bit crazy and unstable and deal with it. Not take their weird bipolar chit too serious, just ignore and let her rage. Although if you have a truly crazy one it's probably almost impossible to deal with.

Actually Borderline is very treatable, and therapy can basically solve it within a couple years(and the person usually wants to fix it).

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is the one that never gets fixed, as the person doesn’t actually want to change.

Most personality disorders are caused by some kind of child abuse. That can be direct or indirect like through neglect or abandonment.

The massive amounts of single parents, divorces, and nontraditional families have created, Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, and Narcissistic personalities are all from various forms of making a kid feel insignificant or hated.

Schizotypical Personality Disorder is where you believe in wacky religions, UFOs, supernatural stuff, etc and that is also caused by feeling insignificant. So, you invent a world filled with wacky wonders to feel like life has meaning.

What makes that a problem is that you come off as "weird" to others and that hurts your ability to function in life.

Personality disorders have been rising due to all of the neglect of children.

Recently, I got two cats and so I now research what kind of food they should eat. In the pet store, the food is all marketed for max cat health, brain growth, and so on. Meanwhile, what do women feed their kids...processed chicken nuggets, lol.

So, as an example, people are more invested in cat nutrition than they probably are their kid's nutrition and brain development. Abuse and neglect can affect a kid in MANY ways even with body language, and that is warping minds.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is the one that never gets fixed, as the person doesn’t actually want to change.
Borderlines are extremely hard to treat and typically are the worst and most difficult clients a therapist can have.

The stats are that Borderines get tired of themselves around 40 and it starts to go away.

Borderlines HATE people and have a cycle of trying to make people hate them. They especially hate nice people and want to make the nice person act out. That way the Borderline confirms their reality that everyone is terrible and fake. So, they will try to attack their therapist to make that dynamic happen.

If the therapist is poorly trained, they will feed into it. That's because they want to help people, the Borderline asked for help, seemingly, then starts attacking. So, the therapist will develop hate.

That's called "Countertransference" in psychology. It's where the bias/hate/anger the therapist has about the patient affects therapy negatively, as you cannot treat a person you hate.

If you hate borderlines as a therapist you will start abusing them, in various ways, thus reinforcing their personality disorder belief system. So, you have to be very cool and understanding when working with Borderlines. It takes SUPREME thinking and calm to be their therapist.

They are one of the hardest types of people to treat.

Personality disorders and especially Borderline has been studied for almost one hundred years.

Karen Horney

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Horney

She developed what is called Object Relations Theory and that was used to explain Borderlines and still is.

This. People are more aware of the labels for things now as opposed to just calling things "crazy". Throw in overdiagnosis from armchair experts plus the very real impact of the internet/social media on increasing tendencies for some PD's or even rewarding them to a certain extent, & it makes perfect sense to me.
