Thought about it but the investment plus time makes it not worth it to me. If I shot more expensive calibers I probably would.

I'd look into progressive press. Single stage looks painfully slow.

I shoot a lot so this would definitely be a factor.

it really depends if you have your own range (or range that allows it) then its a cheap effective measure to shoot rounds but most local shooting ranges wont allow hand loaded ammo

5.56 and x39 are too cheap to reload (for target rounds, and I wouldnt reload defensive) imo. 30-06 could be worth it, and might be a cool hobby.

Actually have a shotshell reloader that a friend gave me. Couldnt find components at the time and havent looked since.

I do a bit. I like to tinker and love being able to mess around. Here's my work bench just after I built it:

You can save money, though I'm sure I don't. I buy to many tools and gadgets to play with. I don't do too bad though. For loading a 223 your components will be primer, case, powder, and bullets. Cases I pick up off the ground at the range for free. An 8 lb keg of powder is around $220 and will load around 2,200 bullets ($0.10/round). Primers are ridiculous right now. The last ones I bought were $80/1000 ($0.08/round), but should be less than half that. I just bought 1,000 bullets from RMR for $161 ($0.16/round). So, my cost in components will be about 34 cents per round. With a little attention to detail, it will be very accurate. You used to be able to find bullets closer to 10 cents (in 22 caliber) and primers at 3 cents, but I don't think we'll see those prices again.

I have a shotgun loader, too (it's in the back in the first picture). I mostly use it to put together light target loads and buckshot loads for hunting coyotes.

If you like doing things with your hands and enjoy messing with tools, it's a fun hobby.

Thanks a bunch. To actually respond to your question. That looks like a good kit to get into reloading. It has all the basics that you will need, and several useful tools that will make things easier. RCBS produces really high quality gear. I have stuff from an assortment of manufacturers, but all of my presses are Lee and most of my smaller tools are Lee. Lee is kind of a budget manufacturer and most reloaders consider RCBS to be superior. That said, Lee has generally been good enough for me. I have stuff from Lee, RCBS, Hornady, Redding, Forster, and Lyman. Now is a hard time to get into reloading. Primers are very hard to find right , and powder can be difficult, depending on the specific variety you need. Some bullets and cases are harder to get, but there are generally options and workarounds. Primers are the real show stopper. You can make reloading complicated, but with decent attention to detail it's not hard to produce high quality ammo. If it appeals to you see if you can source some primers and give it a go.

A turret or progressive press will load faster, but there is a bit more set up effort and they will generally cost more than a single stage press. I don't have a progressive press. but I do have a turret press and it gets the most use on my bench. However, I still use the single stage press frequently for this and that kind of stuff while I am working on loads. Even if you upgrade later, I think a good single stage press will still be useful later on. It would just come down to whether you have space.

This seems to always be an issue even when there isn't a perceived ammo shortage
It's to the point now that my plug for reloads will not even work any up unless you can provide him with the primers for the run

Yeah, I just took a quick look at Midway. The only thing in stock is CCI small pistol magnums, and they cost $90 + hazmat shipping. Natchez has a bit more: CCI #41, small rifle, and mag small rifle. Priced from $90 to $110 per 1,000. I remember when you could walk in to a store and by 100 whenever you needed a few. It is better than it was a couple years ago at least. Well, availability is better. Prices are higher.
