Is 17-18% bf the best body fat for survival?

Let’s say it’s an apocalyptic situation. For one reason or another the comforts of modernity are gone. Now you have to survive, and rebuild.

What would be the optimal body fat percentage be to survive?

I think 17-18% would be the ideal. High enough, where you could go a few weeks without food, but low enough where you can still travel easily and have mobility.

Depending on climate the percentage could vary. Maybe a Canadian winter, being 20-25% would be optimal, versus 10-12% near the equator. For all around adaptability I think 17-18% would be ideal.

Depends on the type of apocalypse. Plague wipe out most humanity? then yes I would agree as food and access to fresh water would be plentiful. Travel would be easy as well, plenty of vehicles and fuel sources.

Nuclear or asteroid that wipes out most life? The fatter the better as you’ll need to cultivate sustainable food in underground bunkers away from the fall out and will need to sustain on canned and frozen goods until that food source is ready.

i been at that level plenty of times...never had any issue getting poocy. I think it is the ultimate BF percentage for men over 35 to maintain.

Yep. I haven't watch all of them but an integral part of strategy for several of contestants on the show "Alone" was to get nice and fat before they went on the show, knowing they were going to lose a lot of weight.
