13 Lives was an amazing movie

Directed by Ron Howard (Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, Rush, Frost/Nixon, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Willow. The Da Vinci Code)

The story of 12 boys and their soccer coach gets stuck in a cave due to early monsoon in Thailand. A rescue mission by Thai Navy SEALs and British Diving Volunteers embark to save them.

Incredible movie heartfelt movie.

Delves deep into Thai culture

When the metal pipes ran out they had to switch to using bamboo trees to pump the water.

I wanted to watch it for the actors and my gf did not want to watch, however, by the end she loved it.

I cannot believe the guys were swimming in the dark, for five hours, in the dark, for five hours.

I cannot imagine doing it.

In my opinion, they ought to be asking men like that to get into public service/politics.

My gf had been bugging me to watch it, we finally set aside 3 hours for it and I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Also I was mind=blown when she told me the other main guy was Colin Ferrell.

Yeah Colin Farrell really transforms himself .

He played The Penguin in the new Batman movie and was unrecognizable in that.

That was an odd Penguin as it had nothing to do with the personality or look of the character.

He's supposed to be a crude and mean person who dresses up like he's a classy guy, but his body and nasty quacking laugh ruins it and got him an insulting nickname.

The people who write these Batman movies ought to be whipped.

Such a good movie and incredible story, the whole anaesthesia angle is nuts and insane that it actually worked

Funny that cave diving is such a niche thing to do that the guys who are the very best in the world at it, way better than navy seals or any other professionals, just do it as a hobby and are actually IT guys, doctors etc.

It's astounding.

When I was watching I misunderstand who long it was taking to do the dive. I was like, why can't the just do ABC and go back and forth?!

Then, I understand that doing the dive took five hours. That's an insane amount of time to be doing tendious things and I don't even know what you call it in that kind of environment as tedious is not good enough.

Anyway, I said to the gf, "I'd just tie those f@cking kids up and drag them out" and then....

Great men involved in this with courage beyond belief!

all those days and the thai kids were patiently waiting. American kids would've ****ed each other up Lord of The Flies style. The diver that found them too probably wouldn't make it back.

You should look up MrBallen's youtube stories about the dumbasses that go into the most dangerous cave diving situations in the world with basically no experience compared to the experience required to do the dives. Never ends well. There are reaction videos from cave divers that are great too.

For example: guy with very minimal experience comes across a sign before a locked gate saying how dangerous the dive is, people die doing it all the time (300+ have died), the guy still tries getting through the gate, another diver with a key to said gate sees him and unlocks it to stop the guy from drowning by being stuck on the gate, and still goes in. Take a guess on how well he did. Believe that one was Vortex Springs, iirc.

Did they say which anesthetic was used?

Have you never looked in to that situation? I'm sure you'll take this the wrong way, but you should try looking in to stuff before forming an opinion.

********. Not something you'd normally use, but it's respiratory sparing unlike most anaesthetics, which is important because these kids were to be dragged along underwater with fitted face masks and very high risk of respiratory failure. The anaesthetist who managed it all is Australian, I've never met him but seen quite a few presentations by him since it all happened it's really incredible. He also estimated all the doses because we usually don't give it intramuscularly, and we normally have accurate body weight measurements, so he virtually winged it.

Basically he thought it had almost no chance of working and the whole time thought he was euthanising these kids but it was better to die in their sleep than starving/suffocating in a cave. It was a shock that any of them survived.

NICE! ****, man. I'll get lost in a cave for a while for a 5+ hour k-hole lmfao

Crazy that he winged it. That's dangerous as all ****. Glad it worked out and now he's the go to expert on ********, ha!

I also figured most anesthetics would lower oxygen a good bit. Stop making me look dumb, please.

Watched it the other day and thought it was great. Still amazed that it worked out the way it did. Those kids were tough.

Not going to lie when one of the kids dad was asking the SEALs to just bring back his kids body it kind of got to me.
