would you rather be a rentcel or homeownercel in this scenario

35 years old, single, work from home, make $150-175k depending on stocks performance

option 1 - buy a home in austin (where i currently live) or even dallas if i move there, for bout $375k

option 2 - move to a big city like new york or chicago, or even boston and pay upwards of 3k for rent

Isn't Austin a woke chithole though?
SUPERHOT SUPERHOT SUPERHOT SUPERHOT

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

How far out are the suburbs from the city?

I bought a house in the suburbs of a 500k population city in the UK, 3 miles out so 15 minutes in an uber.

Depends on your life goals. Depends on your ability to deal with the owner or landlord.

If you plan to stay in the same place for 10+ years or maybe forever, then just buy a cool place easy enough for you maintain alone.

Not a bad idea, i guess my thing is i like being around people. Would feel like roping if i lived in a cookie cutter suburb where the only thing outside my window is grass and pavement

Don't get the appeal with rent. You basically live in someone else's craphole.

You can't make changes inside, usually places for rent are hideously bland and ugly, you pay money every month for something you will eventually leave behind
