To quote the article, "They said she would sink if she ever hit open water again. They said she was a rust-bucket. She proved them all wrong."

The battleship Texas, which served in both WWI and WWII, left it's docked location since 1948 in La Porte Texas to head for Galveston for a $35 million dollar repair job that will take over a year to complete. Assisted by tugboats, the battleship left early this morning and traveled through the Houston shipping channel and arrived safely in Galveston this evening.

Crowds gathered anywhere they could to witness the ship on the waters for the first time in years. It's been a tourist attraction in La Porte (just outside of Houston) next to the San Jacinto monument. My Grandpa used to take me and my sister to tour the battleship when we were kids. He was in the Navy during WWII and would proudly show us around the ship and explain how everything would work.

Thought I'd share this with the Misc. Not ashamed to say I shed some tears today.

I toured that ship when I was a kid. Pretty cool. Tours over boys.

It's a shame it won't return to La Porte. Hopefully, they pick a nice location for it.
