There are basically two kinds of nerds: the kind who have a lot to say and just jump in and interrupt you or the kind that have a lot to say and just keep going on and on and don't let anyone else talk without interruption.

This guy is so fukking annoying in interviews/podcasts. He's demeaning and rude. He's intelligent but he's only bearable when there's no opposing commenter.

Neil Degrasse Tyson achieved nothing in the academic world. He wasn't top of his class or anything. His achievement is being an effective communicator and being black. He's the perfect "science" mouthpiece for his elven overlords.

I mean he certainly achieved more than me. Probably you too. But yeah he presents himself as the all knowing science guy which is annoying AF when he has only a degree and nothing real to back it up in practice. He basically has said himself he wants to be the next carl sagan. But carl wasnt annoying or condescending.

He's famous because he is a good communicator of science. If you want someone who is both accomplished and a good communicator, check out Leonard Susskind.

Most of these guys are too busy with research to explain relativity to lay people for the 28482828th time.

He is a populariser and communicator of science, not an active research scientist or someone who's made major contributions to the academic field (beyond the general achievement of a PhD a long time ago).

There's nothing at all wrong with that because it's a very important role in itself - the problem is he went from being a reliable and engaging communicator of science concepts to laypersons, to a smarmy cringey douchebag who just likes hearing himself talk (I will never forget him seriously trying to "deboonk" the physics of Star Wars)

He doesn't either. He's no different from everyone else except that he knows some physics. And sometimes he opines on other things. He's a person like everyone else. You're just mad because he is a celebrity now and has opinions. You don't have to agree with anything he says that isn't immediately factual or supported by evidence.

That's literally his job. To be the science spokesperson. His credentials matter because his words have more weight than if a random like me started talking about physics.

His credentials are only in astrophysics. He is not an expert in other topics.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson is unbelievably cringe-worthy. Anybody who admires or follows him is basically giving themselves away as someone who doesn't actually think, but just likes whatever/whoever is popular on social media

the greatest disappointment ever probably on JRE was that he had the No 1 smartest living man on in Roger Penrose and he didn't even ask about the penrose steps let alone anything else.

Penrose you could have literally asked to explain time and he would have found an accurate measure.

Degrasse Tyson is a guy who talks a lot but says nothing. Extremely overrated.

Kip Thorne would be another top guest. Shame rogan doesn't reallt have the right questions for these guys.

Everyone keeps saying "yeah he's smart, but"

Are we even sure he's smart? He's pumped out more BS nonsense over the past three years than almost anyone else.

I was never interested in Karl Sagan or this guy.

When I was in college I took an astronomy class, which I thought would be fun, but it was very hard and taught me that most things we take for granted that exist in space are just extreme theories. So, the subject is borderline nonsense and people will be going back and forth about it forever.

So, you are sitting, typically for entertainment, listing to a subject that sounds cool but it's really guys making money by talking about math theories as if they are real things they experienced.

I watched a video on cats the other day on Netflix and it was much better because cats are real and learning about them is something useful.
If you want to ask me a question:

They are not extreme theories. There is overwhelming empirical evidence. You sucked at astronomy because you're fuking dumb bro. "Math theories"? Retard. There is empirical evidence for all of it. Like wtf are u even smoking?

The same approach used to understand cats or finance or whatever else is also used to understand physics you absolute muppet.
