Sim Flex. 90" wide unobstructed field of view monitor setup

I am always playing with our sim. Neat little optic trick to seam monitors together and get rid of bezels. It is not perfect, but gives a very nice effect.

Hard to drive a manual and take footage, (just as in real life) but shot a quick vid.

Nice set-up. Looks like about the most realistic driving sim set-up you can get at home.

Thanks guys. A lot of fun. Only bad part is my son is always faster than I am

We did not set it up for gaming. We use it for track prep Asetto Corsa is great because it is open source and has the tracks we go to and a fairly realistic model of our car. It is a fantastic tool, and I used it to transition son to driving manual on track at 14. I took him for a few parking lot instructions about starting off etc, but he learned stick on the sim, and his 3rd time driving stick (in real life) was on track at Virginia International at 14 years old.

Visually there are better ones out there, but the one we run has a HUGE open source community with actual content that transfers over to the real world for our tracking events. I keep adding different things here and there for fun. Adding motion was nice. I dont think it is necessary, but it helps connect with the car better.

There are 'nicer' setups for you. You can spend about 100k+ on them. We have about 9k in ours (not including the PC to run it). Not cheap, but you can certainly spend a lot more. Hard to justify as a 'toy' but for us we use it as actual practice. Crashing on track is a lot more expensive!

We will be on track again on Tues. My son will have his first 'sick day' from school

I have a full racing sim setup also in my game room. I opted to go for vr instead of a big multi monitor setup, but I have a 65 oled for when I want to use a screen. Have a 5.1 surround mounted just for the racing sim too.

I highly recommend snagging an oculus quest for a cheap way to try vr racing sim. It's insanely immersive

Loads of fun. Mostly playing assetto corsa online in no hesi servers.

Cool. Love to see pics of setup.

I have a Quest. Just not comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time. With our current setup, you are sweating your a$$ off after just 15 min of driving. Between the wheel and the motion, it is a lot of work. If I run a 30 min session, I am soaked after. It is a workout!

Most of the time I am running a lotus, but if you get up into the GT cars it is crazy the beating you take. And I have our motion turned down to the lower 1/3.

This is a vid of my son driving a McLaren F1 GT car. This is what my monitors looked like before the optics. ASUS makes them, but they dont fit my monitors (mine are too large for them to work) so I had to do some modding.

I thought about buying some games for fun. We have ACC but only played a few times. Maybe get an offroad one would be fun with the motion. But like I was saying, we mostly use it for track prep,

Yeah I mean if I had a 3 monitor setup like that I wouldn't use vr either lol. It's fun but Def more of a hassle.

I did buy aftermarket face pad and head pad for the quest and I can say it makes 100 percent difference, it's not uncomfy or hot at all now.

You should Def try out dirt rally if you haven't, it's a great series for racing simulators. Even if you aren't into rally you'll have fun, it's really fast paced and really hard. And the motion rig will prob go absolutely nuts.

I don't have a motion rig but lol that thing looks like it's bout to toss your son thru a wall if he crashes the car lolol.

I had planned to get a motion rig setup but instead of upgrading my racing sim any farther I'm opting to put that money to an irl sports car.

I ain't no big baller in my lotus but I have been looking for something rwd and fun to cruise and take to a track. like a 2023 brz or a used c6 vette. Of course naturally when I started my sports car journey, the used car market went to hell, so I've just been waiting. At this point winter is around the corner so I'll probably end up continuing my search into spring and hopefully have a fun weekend toy in my driveway by next summer.

Mirin hard af. If I had that though I would be on it all day. Was a huge gamer back in the day but the most hours I spent on games were definitely the Gran Turismo series.

No real life. You can see how the bezels normally look. They make a lens that refracts the monitors just enough that that part is 'cropped'. Works really nicely. ASUS makes it. My only issue is they dont fit 32" monitors (I have a triple 32" curved set up) so I had to do some mods to make it work. Very happy with how it turned out and it was cheap. Like 110$ for the lenses.

I am downloading Dirt 2.0 right now just to play. I thought the motion would be fun with it. I have to turn the motion down quite a bit on ACC with the actual GT3 cars. You get the sh!t beat out of you. But you want enough motion that you can feel what the car is doing. The motion is not necessary but was just something fun to do. But I agree, not worth the money if that is what you are basing it on.

The BRZ is a great car. LOVE them. I first tracked my Huracan and it is not a 'practical' car to track. Just too expensive, but had to do it at least once. Also that is the first car my son ever got to drive and he did it on track with tipple digit speeds by his forth cornerOne of those fuk it moments, but knowing that I wanted to track more often, the lotus is the perfect car for us.

I have a ton of mods on the car. Currently 1960lbs and putting out about 360hp. So similar power to weight as a huracan. But it is the corners where it really shines. I am hitting 1.8g's in corners. I just went up 20% in my spring rate on the coil overs, so interested to see how this next track day goes.

But for fun and on the cheap, just get a miata. They are SUPER capable and a huge base under them of people who track. You can probably buy one that someone has already sunk a bunch into the mods and be racing for under 10k. Just take care of safety things first and then have fun.

Another great car is a S2000. But the market is expensive on them. We just got my son one, and we will probably bring it out to the track at least once so we can find it's limits out there safely (they are tail happy). But we are just lightly modding it and want to keep it practical as a street car.

My lotus, well I do the opposite. I want is as impractical as can be. It is just more fun that way! Here are some pics.

My son is into gaming. But yea, you can get lost on the thing. I am sad to say I dont use it much. Just a few days before events I go down and run laps at the track we are going to. But I want to put some other things on just to 'play'. Up till now, I was just using it for practice and reestablishing my visuals and refreshing the track in my mind.

We have our first track day after the summer break on Tues. My son and I did some sim prep tonight running our track. He is going to have a 'sick day' next tues

Before anyone says it, the graphics and detail of this track are spares. It is something someone created so not a lot of 'fluff' but the track is super accurate and that is what it is for.

But short little clip from end of my sons run. Best lap I had was 1:47. He pulled a 145 with lifetime best of 1:43. I dont think I have ever gotten below 147

I am shooting vid a little too far away from the screens to make the bezels disappear. The focal point is such that right on the drivers seat they disappear.

I also shot a clip of my first time running the rally game. MAN that is a workout. Will post when it uploads. MUCH better graphics there and a lot of fun.

Thanks. I think this shows it a bit better.

At the suggestion of others, I added Dirt 2.0 to my sim. Fun and graphically it is quite stunning. It is also VERY challenging. I am not much a drift/rally driver, but did some POV driving on it after about 30 min of playing with it. I had to turn my motion down a little as I was getting beat up too much. But you can see the workouts. The wheel gives you quite a bit of force feedback. (enough it can hurt you if you are not careful and dont catch a thumb on it!).

Dont make too much fun of my dirt driving. But you can really see the effect of the 'seamless' monitors here.

Honestly if you're really into cars and racing, you should go outside and spend a few hours at the track. These simulations where you're sitting in front of monitors are never going to be an accurate representation of real driving, and they're really for poverty-cells that can't afford going to the track.

The dude who does not read the thread and just posts assumptions.....Also you know nothing about sims. There is a reason the F1 guys use them.

Feel free to post up some of your track pics. Here are some of mine. Yes, sim is a GREAT tool. Tell the guy in the last pic they are for 'poverty-cells"!

Will be out on track tues. Was practicing in sim tonight.

Just an all around dumb post tbh.

First off... What about this setup says poverty? Theres probably close to $10k or more just for a video game racing sim. If you've ever been to an open track day at a popular track then you'll know there's alot of beaters out there that cost less then whay this racing sim cost

Second off.... These are the kinds of racing Sims professional f1 drivers and rally drivers practice on in their off season. Obviously an f1 driver will have a setup calibrated to mimic their car for professional practice purposes... But you get the idea. To say they will never be an accurate representation of real driving is just plain wrong. You can go on YouTube and see many racing sim youtubers or twitch streamers racing online with actual professional drivers.

VR headset would be better. I've been wanting to build a sim setup, one day.

Very close on cost (not including the pc to drive it). The motion was not necessary, but it was a fun addition but not truly 'worth' it for the cost. Also true about many of the F1 drivers using them extensively.
Verstappen and Norris will often stream their sim racing. We bought it as tool since I wanted to get my son out on the track early. Not as a pro racer, but just so we could share the experience together. COVID made me say 'fuk it' to many things, and getting my son out on track with me was (and is) the best thing ever.

The mental workload on the track is much greater. ESPECIALLY when driving a manual car. I enjoy driving a manual on track as it is so much more a challenge. I am not a pro driver, but I love competing with myself.
The sim has been invaluable. Like I mentioned earlier, my son was on track the 3rd time he ever drove stick. The first 2 were in parking lots and he made the transition right on to the race track.

I let it sit for a while and then when we have track days coming up, I jump on and freshen up my memory of the track, my shift and braking points and different lines. There is never 100% fidelity, but so much you can gain and experiment with. A weird example, is at VIR there are some challenging corners. NASCAR and Oak Tree are two tough ones. I get on the sim before and after, and each time, the sim improves my sector speeds just a touch, and then going to the track will improve my sim time after. They both build on each other and you gain something from both.

I have some more laps to do tonight. Track day is tues.

I use an Alienware QD OLED as my monitor, and it took some time getting used to but I think I could go a bit wider. But aren't the outer edges of yours almost touching your shoulders when you play, OP? How does that work as the sim? Simulating the side windows on a car for peripheral vision?

The montiors are set at a 125 deg angle. Plenty of room to get in and out. The seat has a slider rail so you move the seat all the way to the rear and getting in and out is quite easy.
Asetto Corsa has some VERY nice custom monitor config setting where you can really get things to your liking. Also in the Nvidia panel you can do a lot of tweaking to set up a custom profile to make them work as you like. The only 'bad' part about that is you have to switch profiles if you want to do something other than sim on it. But with our rig, everything is dedicated for it, even the PC so it is nice just to hit a button and fire it up.

When I first did the rig, I was running it off my sons gaming PC which sits next to the sim. This was a pain and the setting thing have to be reconfiged every time he gamed and switched to his monitors on his desktop. So I built another PC to run the sim alone.

I have a Samsung G9 49" curved for my desktop, and it is not as nice as the view you get out of 3-32". Using a single monitor is totally workable, but I was having fun with this build. This was a 'splurge' build and and I was not on a tight budget, so it is kind of overkill. You can have fun with much less outlay. And to the opposite, I could have gone WAY worse spending and put 50k into one. For me, this is not practical, but fun. I feel kinda bad that I dont use it as much as I should but it definitely serves a purpose for us. I realize there is a huge world out there where people race, and sim. That would be cool, but I try to not get too distracted and always have a good bit on my plate. (still finding time to work out 4 days a week at 49 plus all of lifes stuff)

I have even thought of building a cool enclosure for it, but I have so many things I need to mess with first. I just enjoy making things.
