Affluent whites/ libs get a kick out of adopting minority babies. When I was a younger I lived in Colorado and adopting a Chinese baby girl was the in 'thing'. I can remember this period vividly because my sister had a bunch of friends that were adopting Chinese babies and she wanted to as well. You've also got to realize there are places in the South where blacks make up something like 40-60% of the population. In these areas they are much more likely to intermarry/have kids with whites which affects those numbers as well.
