Pretty sure if you surveyed communist countries such as China, NK, etc there would be 100% approval and happiness and they wouldnt require any food or clothing or basic human necessities either.

I agree it's not as quantifiable as temperature, money, weight, etc., but to an extent, it is measurable. If you ask 1000 people from 100 countries to rate a selection of "happiness" metrics on a scale from 1-10, you'll at least see some kind of a trend. I assume that's the approach they took here.
