The risk/reward. I always wanted to start a company, and I have a concentration in Entrepreneurship for my mba. But when I got done with grad school, I had my kids. I had a good job working in M&A for a fortune 100 company. Didn't seem like a good time to take a risk. Then I had my divorce and was shackled with child support. Now I have my dream back-up job. If starting a company didn't happen I wanted to be a cfo, and that's what I'm doing now. Maybe someday I'll do it, but I'm going to ride this out for a while, honestly it's not bad at all. I could do this for the next 30 years.

I'm thinking about it. I enjoy risk and really don't have much to lose at this point. Risk makes things exciting to me. If there's a reward at the end of it, that's even better

I’d rather work for someone else, let them think about the business all day every day. When my shift is up I go home and don’t think about work. The drawback is I’ll never be a successful entrepreneur but I’m ok with that

there's an obvious risk/reward relationship. if it was as easy to start a business and make a lot of money as it is to become an engineer and make six figures, everyone would choose to be their own boss instead.
it's hard to create economic value on your own without a combination of skill, luck, and timing.
also helps if you have enough money that you can risk failure to begin with. median net worth in the USA isn't large enough for most people to take years off having a paycheck and hope to build a business.
