There’s a good chance it’s a virus. Usually passes in 2 weeks.
Under no circumstances let them put a steroidal drop in your eyes .
Just tough it out if it’s not bacterial in nature .

Take a washcloth and soak it in clean hot water under the tap, (not too hot obviously) and hold against the closed eye , rinse and repeat several times .
Don’t use the same cloth for both eyes

Do they feel itchy as well? I’ve been having extreme allergies this fall. Felt like my throat was about to close up and my eyes about to fall out of my head. Bought a generic of Claritin and it saved my eyes

zinc + magnesium is part of diet, but haven't been dieting lately. started today again, hopefully helps.

haven't tried visine yet, will that help eye pain?

nope no itchiness
If your eyes are dry, I'm sure that's a cause for the discomfort/possible pain. I'd give it a try, it might help, also some Saline Eye Drops if possible infection. Could be conjunctivitis if the pain continues. If Saline Eye drops don't help, put an eye patch over it, take some ibuprofen and wait to see the doc, you might need prescription eye drops like chloramphenicol.

Also could be Corneal Erosion

"Corneal erosion is when the layer of cells on the surface of the cornea, called epithelium, loosens from the layer underneath. This is painful and makes your vision blurry or hazy. Corneal erosion pain may start suddenly, often when you first wake in the morning. Your eyes get dry while you sleep, and your eyelid might stick to the cornea. If the epithelium is not firmly attached, opening your eyelids might peel the epithelium off."
