Why doesn’t the Dominican Republic help Haiti out

They’re next door neighbors and the DR seems to be doing a little better

- the DR isn't doing that much better

- Haiti is wrecked badly

From what I recall reading it would be better if Haiti had a reduced population and was replanted using some type of permaculture plan that would enable a sustainable agricultural economy.

Maybe Suave Llama guy could take that on?

Yeah I was just watching indigo traveler and he’s there. It looks pretty bad.could be a great spot for tourism if they got it together

SANTO DOMINGO, Feb 20 (Reuters) - The Dominican government on Sunday began building a wall that will cover almost half of the 392-kilometre (244 miles) border with Haiti, its only land neighbor, to stop irregular migration and the smuggling of goods, weapons and drugs.

While the two countries share the island of Hispaniola, they are worlds apart in terms of development. Crime-plagued Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the Americas while the Dominican Republic, a popular Caribbean tourist destination, has prospered in recent decades amid marked political stability.

My friend just came back from DR and he couldn't believe how the people are so poor

I mean there are reasons why Dominicans are emigrating everywhere. Even in Lebanon of all places.

Is Lebanon a rich country? I thought they had wars over there?

Went to DR for the weekend in June. The resort’s are beautiful. Outside of the resorts is a complete $hithole. I’m talking mostly dirt roads , little mopeds everywhere as the primary form of transportation and even as a taxi service. Extreme poverty levels. Many Haitians working in the resorts and tourism to get away from even worse conditions on the Haiti side.
