Anyone live in upstate NY?

Recently moved to Melbourne, FL with family after living in Bronx, NY my entire life. I like not being around gangbangers anymore, but I don't know if FL is a fit for me long-term.

I plan on moving out soon and part of me wants to go back to NY, but I don't want to desire to deal with all the city's bullchit (crime and mandatory vaccine chit especially) when it circling the drain. I visited some family in upstate NY and thought it was nice, so curious on to how it is there compared to the city these days and if it's worth considering.

I'd never consider living directly in a major city in America SRS. Upstate NY has to be better than the shthole that is NYC

I live in a nice part of Jersey City and it's way nicer than the bronx.

But you gotta make 200k+ a year combined income to enjoy living here IMO. And you don't want to live anywhere near places with cheaper rent.

Dobbs Ferry seemed real nice when I visited. I could probably live there. Just don't buy anything so you can move if things go south.

What part of Upstate your family live in? Iโ€™ve noticed most of the NYC people who contemplate moving north think of the Hudson Valley or Saratoga Springs areas. Canโ€™t go wrong with either for the most part as Iโ€™d say both are among the more beautiful parts of the Northeast.

Iโ€™m from Rochester which, city proper, is a fuked up place. Currently the murder capital of New York (per capita) by a big margin. I can tell you stories for days from growing up. Crazy fuking chit.

However the surrounding suburbs become very nice almost immediately outside city limits and fairly wealthy too, especially the smaller villages along the Erie Canal and towns in the Finger Lakes. The cost of living is quite low. Itโ€™s an underrated region IMO.

Buffalo has similar dynamics but the city is in better shape due to state investment and its ability to attract young professionals, I believe Buffalo is the fastest growing city proper in the Rust Belt right now. Itโ€™s also a really cool place to just hang out. The people in WNY are down to earth.

Syracuse is a dump. Without the college the whole city wouldโ€™ve collapsed decades ago. Avoid the Southern Tier too. Chit hole. Might as well be West Virginia.

I havenโ€™t spent enough time in the Albany area to give a proper opinion, just passing through it seemed depressing, especially Schenectady, but the job market may be stronger due to it being the state capital.

I live and work in NYC and would never live in the Bronx or Harlem.

NYC can be nice - it'll cost you. If you can work remotely permanently in a job there isn't much reason to be here unless you want to smash.

Older folks in my entity live in CT even, big houses, better schools, and heck some places even have better pizza than most in NYC too.
