Does Cobra Kai TV series live up to the hype?

I remember when it came out as Youtube Original and people raved about it and then Netflix purchased it and now there are 5 focking seasons?

I legit have not read anyone online or IRL that doesn't absolutely love it or even anyone who thinks it is average.

Legit only people who haven't seen it or people who are obssed about it.

Rate it misc and tell me how urgently I need to start watching it.

Meh. It was good for the nostalgia at first but it’s too kiddie tbh. At first Johnny was the best character because he was so non PC but ofc cuckflix hadta get their hands in it and it went downhill imo.

There’s an arch. It’s pretty much just repeating itself in different ways though. After you e seen the first 2 seasons there’s really no point.

It's worth watching, there are some top-tier lolz srs

The first season or two, Johnny gives major kicks to PC culture & it was satisfying


If you liked the movies you'll like this, ignore the teen drama as best you can because they're one-dimensional characters(some are hot; no p33d0)

Lots of teenager drama but other than that its fine.

Episodes are short otherwise would borr you since they kept on recycling same themes

It’s entertaining but cheesy af, and has every typical used tv storyline in the book. Acting is mostly daytime soap level or worse but there’s good humour and music in it though. The last season was good. I skipped season 4 and still feel caught up because it just felt like the same teenage drama over again.

This really sums it up, cheesy as Fuk but still entertaining. I'm assuming the next season will be the last. Kreese will become "good" to end the series. The main arch of the series is redemption.

Seasons 1 and 5 were the best. 2, 3, and 4 leaned too heavy into the teen drama.
Seasons 1 and 5 focus way more on the adults / legacy characters and are better for it.
I go into every season thinking "This is stupid," and almost always watch 3 or 4 episodes back-to-back and am back onboard.

If you like the movies the show is a great continuation. Rare reboot / far-future sequel that doesn't just sh!t on the lore and fans, it embraces them.

If you are intelligent you can enjoy it as the plot is different from most.

If you are stupid it will be a boring show.

Intelligent:

The show is there to show that all of these people are crazy for trying to classify each other as good or evil.

In the movies, the bad guy seemed like a selfish egotist. Now, we realize that he is not the brightest person but he is good and was misguided due to several factors. The hero of the movies is shown to not always be a good person and not a selfless hero but also a selfish person at times.

The really evil people from the movie seemed evil in the show, but as time went on your realize that he's more of a mentally ill person.

So, the show is all about challenging assumptions.

Also, the belt system in martial arts means increasing perversion. So, a "black belt" is a pervert as he knows how to harm people. As time goes on, your belt is supposed to turn white again, as they are dyed, and so you become old enough to know not to fight so you stop being a pervert.

The show is strongly about the insanity of always fighting, challenging, and needing to be Number One, when it's meaningless.

The show is also largely a comedy.

Idiot:

Idiots watch this show and think it's a serious martial arts show about realistic people. They will not get any of the comedy and think all of the characters are serious, so the show seems dumb.

They will not understand the theme of the show and thinks it's just about martial arts schools.

Season 1 is a must watch, then decide for yourself if you want to keep watching. Spoiler alert: there is a good story arc but one of my favorite thing is how they slowly addin original characters.

I thought the latest season was the weakest one yet

They have good themes like redemption

But they also have some bull**** like it's perfectly fair to fight 2v1 if you're a "good guy"
