Thinking about putting in an application/tryout for a local marine rescue team here. It's a volunteer squad with 4 boats, some jet skis, ambulances etc. No experience req and they train you to be an EMT, and several other certs such as jet ski rescue, coxswain member, diving etc. Helps with drownings, missing boaters/swimmers/kayakers etc, body recovery, evidence recovery.

I need something to fill my time. All I do now is work and gym. Seems like it would be a cool gig to give back to the community and get some great experience. I am thinking about applying to some federal LE agencies when I get out of the military - NPS, IRS CI and a few others. Seems like the experience would definitely help.

I mean that's pretty common all over the USA. Most EMS/FF are volunteer forces. The paid positions are very hard to get.

Lots of cool stories from deep in the woods from those guys. Never go near a staircase in the woods.

Haha I read those stories. Pretty interesting. This won't be much forest rescue since it's in Virginia Beach. Just rivers and ocean.

Sounds like the potential for a good ass time if you ask me.

My martial arts instructor in Korea was Korean Air Force Special Ops Search and Rescue.

Knew a ton of martial arts - Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kali/Arnis, Savate, Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ

Went camping in the woods all the time eating nothing but ramyun.

Retired USCG aircrew. Over 5000 hours on HC130H, lots of SAR. Much of my SAR was when I was stationed at Clearwater FL. Lots of drunk dudes on boats there.

I don't think my experience is related to what you are talking about. But look into Customes & Border Patrol. I had a very good chance to transition from USCG to US CBP but didn't because my dad was passing away.
