Hurt back while deadlifting

Just when my elbow healed and I’ve been having the best workouts and working day and night this happens. Don’t know how serious it is but I’m in sone good pain. I injured something at a furniture job years back and it was worse than this but every now and then something back there pops and I am in pain. I wasn’t even deadlufting that much either. I’ve been constipated and was at 225 and something didn’t feel right. I said one more set and it felt like something in my back shifted. I made it through work tonight but it wasn’t fun. Wtf

I've seen this thread dozens of times on the misc and yet you boys still deadlift

Dunno why people insist on making mistakes themselves in order to learn from them instead of just learning from othercels

Deadlift is a pretty chit exercise for putting on muscle mass especially if you have a good leverage for it (long arms and short torso).

Visited snap city doing conventional deadlifts. Took more than a year off. Messed around with sumo and it killed my hip flexors but my back felt good. Been doing trap bar high and now low handle for more than a year with virtually no issues. If you start deadlifting again, you might make the switch.

As far as recovery goes, don't do a bunch of stretching at least until you are pain free. I made that mistake and it aggravated my issue. I also rested completely and it slowed my recovery. Strengthening your low back really seems to be key. There are a lot of ways, but for me doing dead hangs from a pull up bar with fully engaged core has helped the most. Near instant relief when my back starts acting up. I start out like I'm doing a hanging leg raise but focus my energy into my abs and core rather than trying to bring my legs all the way up, which is tough to do without hip flexors coming into play.

you have to unlearn pulling weight with your lower back and learn how to pull with your lats, upper back muscles, adductors, glutes, and all leg muscles.

95% of people I see deadlift, pull with their lower back. Its because its what out body wants us to do because its the easiest and the body likes going the path of least resistance.

You want to deadlift like how oly weightlifter do it (clean deadlift) with a straight back & using leg muscle. You can easily train deadlift 3x a week without messing up your lower back if you do clean dead.

The thing is I started deadlifting to help prevent injuries. It helps in normal activities to use good form. I wasn’t even going heavy. It’s happened before and then I was good in no time so I’m hoping that’s the case. It feels like it’s messed with my bowel movements or something

This.

I do clean pulls and wear oly shoes so I am more forward leaning.

However, before when I wasn't engaging my lats and squeezing, my lower back would take the force and have tweaked it many times.

As soon as I started engaging lats, glutes, keeping core tight and squeezing, the lower back feeling went away instantly.

just don’t go heavy as fukk

I snapped my shtt a few times and recently

a lot of people train to heavy and go to snap city.

I could pull 100lb+ more for reps but it’s not worth it

RDLs are also good substitutes

I don't know brah. I see way too many skinny dudes pulling 500 lb+ on deadlift just cause they got long arms and a perfect leverage for the lift.

This is a great tip. When I started deadlifting again, I recorded every lift and realized that 100% of my lifts where I could see my lats engage felt and looked stronger. Now I focus on that every time I brace. I have no doubt that I wasn't doing it before when I snapped my chit.

These

+ You must be able to get into the right / correct position and 95% of people do not have the correct mobility / flexibility to do deadlifts properly.

Same thing goes with barbell back squats, both are VERY technical movements.

If you aren't doing dynamic stretching / mobility drills / static stretching to open up your hips + everything else you have no business deadlifting OR squatting.

Last but not least you need to build up your back like a MOFO with bent BB rows, other variations of rows and get it strong AF. Really its the entire posterior chain, from back, to glutes, to hammies. BUILD.

Not really. Adaptive athletes can't get in the proper position, almost by definition, if form was so important to prevent injuries, they wouldn't let adaptive athletes lift at all.

You can deadlift completely wrong and get super strong in that form with no issues. The most common problem is people progressing improperly, too big of weight jumps, going too high too quickly after a layoff, their preferred form breaks down and that's where the injuries happen.

Mine has something to do with my digestion. Like my gas pains are related to whatever keeps popping. Like gas is pressing against my spine or something
