Stolen Valor should be an instant imprisonable felony.
Watching Don Shipley (Former Buds131 on youtube) and just crazy how every week he can find yet another idiot claiming to be a Navy SEAL. Those are the most brazen of them, but there are so many frauds out there. According to him, 4 out of 5 vietnam vets are frauds. Even those who actually went to vietnam, not that many actually saw combat. As a gen X, our parents were boomers and they all have tales of "Nam. Crazy stories about "charlie" and the ambushes. Saying how most of their HS class was wiped out in that war. I remember all these homelesses talking about their vietnam service. "you weren't there man" no I wasn't, and if I was I probably wouldn't have seen you either. The reality is that most of them are just wasted old junkies. Even now, I've heard BS stories from people claiming Afghanistan and Iraq.
The truth about real combat vets. They usually don't talk about it. When they do open up about it, the tone is much different from these frauds. They don't boast about their wild heroics like it was some kind of adventure. Sometimes they will just talk about the guys that didn't make it back and how great they were and how they will never forget them.
About a year ago, this new guy at my old work started talking about his tours in Iraq. Said he was leading a team of Rangers, Navy SEALS, and Marines into combat and how they ran out of ammo so he lead the team over and they killed all the "hagies" with their kbars. Also how he not only met Chris Kyle but was securing the perimeter while he was sniping. Honestly, I never spoke another word to him after that, just no respect, I knew he was so full of it. Honestly, I regret it that I didn't call him out, or maybe find someone to verify it, but we were at work, but still what a loser.

Don't think they should go to prison, but it is kind of pathetic. More annoyed with non-combatees claiming PTSD or some sham disability and clogging up the queue for guys who legit need the help.
Definitely agree on 4/5 of these Vietnam "vets" being frauds. See these guys all the time walking around with Vietnam Vet hats and getting thank you hand shakes. My father and every legit vet I ever met didn't ever do chit like that.

NSW are the biggest phukkin loudmouths in the military.
Chris Kyle straight up lied about almost everything.

My step dad saw some pretty bad stuff in Vietnam, he never likes talking about it, & never brings it up or gives any hint that he went over..but it messed him up pretty badly. Infact everyone I know that has served & seen action never like talking about it..but these stolen valor types always seem to love to tell about some BS stories, it’s a dead giveaway.

Funny how these guys never say they were a cook or some mundane office job.
Thats really the giveaway because most jobs in the military are just that. boring day to day stuff.
Plus another dead giveaway is wearing medals. Never been a single military person who actually wanted to wear them. They make you wear them once every few years for some big inspection. They are a huge hassle and if they get dirty you need to replace them. bad enough just wearing ribbons.
dont think it deserves jail time but some public humiliation would be nice. cant stand it when places accept these obvious fakers as the real thing like veterans groups and such. Like non of these old vets were suspicious? i damn sure would be. I was in for 20 years and can spot a fake right away. Most vets should be able to.

Yeah I DGAF. Someone faking being a medical professional or something is far more dangerous. I do have a Tier 1 fraternity brother who directed the Bin Laden takedown, he never talks about it.

The only people who care about that stuff is service members bc yall we're dumb enough to sell yourself to the govorment and now pride is all you have left
That being said it is pretty cringe to see stolen Valor, but it's just as cringe as people who serve and think they're better then anyone else for doing so.

I remember OP said he wished a security guard should be killed because:
He was doing his job at a dollar store mandating that customers put on a mask in a store. Haha

most of these guys are insecure or have mental illness i've seen.
Either way, if someone brags too much - red flags go off. Real vets like us, it was a job, we moved on. We have nothing to prove.

I never make my experiences a subject of general conversation.
Would I yak about it with those whohave had their boots on the dangerous ground?....yes.
On the 'stolen valor'....I guess the excruciating shame of eventually getting caught wasn't considered.

My respect to all the that have served honorably.
