Trump is a nightmare for the GOP right now, and I support it.
DeSantis apparently called him a moron, and all the GOP would think similarly about Trump. They just need him to win their primaries.
Based on a recent post of mine:
Now, this time, I'm going to break rank with past me and encourage Trump to keep attacking DeSantis. The more Trump can hurt DeSantis, the better. DeSantis can do some real damage if he wins and he's got a good shot at winning 2024. He's all the bad stuff about Trump; the Machiavellianism, the narcissism, the scheming, but with actual guile and cunning without the brain-dead idiocy.
The GOP like to blame all their shortcomings on the predecessor and act like the new guy is some fresh new face free of said shortcomings. Trump is a nightmare for their optics in this regard because he refuses to go away. They can't make him go away either because he still commands so many of their cultish fan base.
Even if he doesn't have the numbers and loses the primary, he will cry fraud, go third party or command his base not to vote. And if even a minute fraction obey his command, the GOP get mogged in the Presidential race and the down ballots.
They're left with a series of rather unpalatable options. They have to just hope Trump goes away quietly, hope the DOJ can successfully prosecute him, or just keep whining in private.
It's all a win from the left perspective. Don't go away yet, Trump!
