How do you like it? Weather? Things to do? Best suburbs to live in for families with kids?

My wife and I have lived here our whole lives.

It was great until about five or ten years ago when hundreds of thousands of new people started pouring in. Crime has gone up. Traffic is a mess. We don't have the infrastructure to support all of these people driving to the same place at the same time every day, so it's just a mess.

All in all, I've never lived anywhere else, so it's hard to compare. The suburb I grew up in/still live in was always a great place to live, but it's not what it used to be at all.

Basically just all the growing pains you'd expect from a a mid-sized "big" city getting much bigger.

I love to visit, being from Memphis, it's WAY better than here. I just bought my Tesla from Franklin last weekend. Weather is ok, but kinda hot to me. That's relative to where you're from and what you like I guess. It's congested and not quite as liberal as some of the other trendy cities, although it's getting that way from what I can see. Look into Murfreesboro, it's smaller, only 45m away and has a decent quality of life, but it's expensive too. That whole area has shot up immensely in col the last few years. Hopefully Drew isn't a rentcel and has a ton of equity now. I think Nashville saw a 33% property tax hike within the last few years.

There is a lot of stuff to do and it's obviously a big music town and not just country. I've been to 3 concerts there in the past year.

Thanks. I have been looking in Williamson County (Brentwood/north of Franklin/Nolensville). Thought Murfreesboro would be a little too far from downtown, but I'll check it out as well. 45 mins isn't too bad and it seems to be a straight shot through I-24.
I'd be moving from the Tampa Bay area. Part of the reason I want to move is to go back to having 4 seasons (good public schools is another). On infrastructure - I won't be moving for a couple of years (5-8), so maybe there will be some changes by then.

Where does most of the crime happen? Are we talking about downtown Nashville mostly, or should I stay away from some suburbs more than the others? Anything I should know about the area north of Nashville (houses on the Cumberland River, etc)?

Franklin is nice. I grew up in Hendersonville and still live there now. Most of the crime is in the city, but it's started to spill over into the suburbs a little bit. Even in Hendersonville, there's more than I would have ever thought possible twenty years ago.

This all sounds like Boomer complaining... but it's just factually what's happened in recent years.

I happen to live in a beautiful neighborhood with no crime, and you can definitely find that sort of thing. But it's not cheap. If you buy houses in East Nashville like all the other yuppies, just get ready to have your car broken into every other week.
