quitting weed, success stories

can anybody share their experience, or someone you know, how did they manage quitting. What helps and what does not, things like that. I have troubled 22 yo step son who needs to quit. He knows this is something he need to stop, and why. But the environment is against him, all his buddies are into it deeply. I know they all want to quit, but I also know this will not work. Someone told me once, he has never seen anybody who used to smoke weed and stopped doing it. Is it true?

I honestly just stopped. Probably went a week without without actually noticing, and then just decided I wasn't going to do it again.

But I also realized that I didn't like smoking much, and it was mostly just something to do. I already wasn't the most social guy at the time, and it took me from like a 5/10 to a 2/10.

if all his friends smoke weed, unless he's willing to get new friends its pointless to even try and stop

I am talking about severe addiction, like 3 joints a day and up, like hardly being sober, other than short brisk moments of being anal and unhappy until the next joint. I bet you were not anywhere near this level of addiction if you went for a week without giving two shtis about it.

What worked for me was not smoking till 5pm, then once I was able to do that I switched it to 8pm. I still smoke every now and then but it's nothing like before, and my tolerance has tanked where more than a few hits puts me to bed.

This is important, srs.

It's possible that his habit goes beyond fun or socializing with his buddies and it's actually a coping mechanism or something to numb uncomfortable feelings.

IF that is the case, then your son should start by identifying those feelings and finding the root cause.

From there he should take at least a 3 week tolerance break so the substance can leave his system. It will be difficult because smoking that heavily can ruin your appetite and sleep. For some it can take months to recover and actually eat normally without weed, SRS.

Weed is fun. It feels great, but if you develop an unhealthy relationship with it you'll find that it no longer served you the way it used to. At that point you'll be forced to put it down until you've developed a healthy relationship with it or leave it behind altogether.

I was diagnosed with Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) which is a condition that leads to repeated and severe bouts of nausea and vomiting. It is rare and only occurs in daily long-term users of marijuana. Anyway when that happened a team of doctors told me I needed to quit. So I successfully quit. True story.

Took exactly one week of iv morphine and oral and iv nausea medicine to successfully eat and keep food down then they discharged me. They wouldn’t let me leave until I could successfully eat without vomiting.

This is also legit.

The only prevention method is abstaining or heavy moderation (no more than 2 times a week, or so I've read).

Just finished reading a story on reddit about this guy hitting a 80-90% medical grade pen, then hitting joints all throughout the day when it hit him.

Scary as fuk.

It’s the most pain I ever suffered. I am able to smoke once a month now should I choose to.

It just hits you unexpectedly no warning signs.

One moment you’re blazing feel alright then it hits you like a sucker kick to the nuts. It’s not fun. I couldn’t even talk or move without getting great pain.

So high from sun up to sun down? Never knew how people could stand to do that. Sounds like a weed version of alcoholism. Is he depressed?

I was legit the biggest stoner weed head on the misc. and quit a few years back.

I literally grew for decades and never sold just more for me. even crossed my own super weed, A mix of Jamaican Lambsbread and African Malawi Gold, **** took 8 months to bud but it was unreal kinda weed.

At my Highest I was consuming a gram of hash daily and downing a few brownies to boot, just weed could not get me high.

For a good bit of my time I was trying to litterly die of weed. I hated life so much I just get stupid high, like can't walk high.Enter a new plane of existence because this life is not worth being here anymore.

Weed is bad mmm k.

I just quit. Couldn't sleep properly for a little while, got slightly depressed, that was it. Its weed, not benzos, not opiates.. weed. I was a heavy user and blowing around £400.00+ a month on flower & shatter/wax/THC-A crystal. OP what you consider "severe addiction" at 3 joints per day is what I'd have smoked before 1pm. He is not "severely addicted" to anything. If he wants to stop, he just needs to stop. Plain and simple. I repeat, this is WEED, not benzos, not opiates, not alcohol.. weed.

I think you grow out of it. I used to love it like I even grew it when it wasn’t popular. I smoked everyday before school, work, baseball games. Then one day I got super paranoid like I locked myself in a closet. That happened 3 times In a row. The. One day I had this date with a hot chick and we had smoked. My dink was like half the size as usual. We had sec but it was blah. I felt like it took my manhood from me. Never smoked again

Tell him to stop buying and smoking Marijuana.
It's the most effective way to quit.
There is nothing giving him some huge addiction to marijuana that's preventing him from quitting. It's not fuking alcohol or opiates or some chit. You can be addicted to anything mentally, but if he can't even will himself out of that, then god help if if he ever truly becomes addicted to something.

What are the downsides to him smoking? I've known people who have smoked a lot and quit, and it improved there life. I also know people who smoked a lot and quit, and became ****tier people because of it.
What about the weed is negatively effecting him?

The only genuine answer is going to be seek professional treatment. Therapy etc if it's truly an issue for him. Most of the time it's not the weed that is the problem, its' just used as the scapegoat or perceived catalyst to deeper mental issues/depression.

I smoked damn near every god damn day through my 20's and into my 30's. I never had a problem "Quitting" For any length of time if there was a supply issue, which would happen on occasion. 2 years ago I moved to a new state and didn't have any connections up here and have been too lazy to get a medical card. It has been a non issue. Just a cold turkey quit for over a year after smoking heavily for over 15.

when I was young I use to smoke a fair bit of weed until I started developing breathing problems when I smoked weed. When I started fighting to take a breath I stopped. I could smoke hash, just not weed. After that I just stuck to drinking

Took about two weeks for me to get rid of the physical addiction.

I do the vape pen at night to help with sleep but I don't even like that, and the flower stuff is strong af now so no use for me.

Might just want to grow out of. I know some that moved to colorado to work in that industry tho.

Stop treating it like heroin first of all lmao. People who smoke weed a lot look at people like you and laugh at your ignorance of the plant. Sure, "addiction" is possible, but chemically it isnt. Most people who use heavily will just say, "I'm not chemically addicted to this, so stop telling me I'm addicted to a non addictive substance" and not quit. This is a you problem.

3 joints a day is nothing. As most miscers above will tell you. Its an affinity bordering a bigger problem, but not even close to "addiction."

As for solutions:

You just stop. As described above, its not opiates, its not benzos, its not real drugs. You stop, you sleep like **** and dont eat a lot for a week, and then you're back to normal. You have to WANT to stop though. Which is different. If he doesnt want to stop then you're SOL. People have to make the realizations themselves as to the negative effect its having on them/their lives.

I was a D1 athlete, always had good grades, went on to a career at a bulge bracket bank, and never stopped. I was getting positive affirmation from all the data points in my life and never saw the need to stop. I got a gf who didnt appreciate me being high all the time, took a harder look at my weed related finances, and thats when I decided to take a long break and only come back occasionally. Now I just smoke a doink or two on the weekends.

There is no big secret. All addiction requires ONE thing: you actually have to want to quit.

If you want to quit you will and it will be effortless.

If he really wants to quit, he will. If he's already making excuses that 'all his friends do it,' he has zero chance.

If he really wanted to quit he would just stop hanging out with his friends. He's 22, not 12.
