BMI is fukin stupid

I’m overweight at 165lbs. If I tried to get directly into the center of their “normal range” I’d weight 142lbs.

BMI is just a tool for contrasting against a larger population.

Are you 5 foot tall or a woman? For you not not be considered overweight by BMI, your weight shouldn't be that low, unless you're a woman or midget. (Ded fkn Srs)

BMI 30 checking in. When looking at labs and stats, docs think I’m fat. Once I’m in their office, they realize the numbers are bullcrap

Lift for 20 years since age 14 and are considered obese because of a bmi index while being muscular.

BMI doesn't account for people trying to gain muscle, but if you look at people that don't lift and find their height/weight, it looks pretty accurate.

For instance, I'm 5'9. Me at, let's say 180lbs vs a sedentary 5'9 at 180 is night and day. They'd be chubby.
I'm back, bitches!

the numbers aren't bullcrap for 97% of the country.

America isn't brimming with shredded bodybuilders walking around.

Excusing BMI is what fat ass mother fukers do, and is a form of fat acceptance.

The BMI chart doesn't apply to lifters. It assumes you have no muscle mass which is actually true for most people

Went to a doctor and he was saying I was really healthy. Even said "and your BMI..." Then he looked at my BMI, which says I'm overweight at at 5'-11" 185 lbs. He just kind a trailed off and moved on. It's really only useful for sedentary people.

BMI is the real thing, but bodybuilders carry a LOT of muscle mass, so Arnold at 6'2'' 228 lbs at the 1975 Mr OLympia was ''obese'' even though he was ripped to shreds and showed a level of muscle definition never seen before at that time

Welcome to what everyone realizes within about 1 month of deciding to get balls deep into lifting/nutrition as a hobby.

Not just BMI, either. Most medical doctors have very limited actual knowledge of nutrition/fitness/sports medicine. Basically, the advice they'll give you is generally okay advice for someone who is extremely average in terms of weight/body type/metabolism, and who does not want to be active beyond occasionally bs'ing around with the super basic kinda stuff people are expected to do back in school gym class. Beyond that, most M.D.'s aren't gonna be able to do a whole lot for ya with that stuff.

The thing about western medicine is, it's usually highly based on being able to attain verifiable, quantifiable results via external measures when anything beyond basic rest is recommended. I.e., giving someone some sort of medicine, external reinforcement of injury, drugs for therapeautic purposes, vaccines (inb4 covid vaxx conspiracy crew), etc. Which don't get me wrong, it's the best type of medicine, and I consider alternative medicine largely bs. My point is, don't expect a car mechanic (Dr. who works with pills/treatment plans/surgeries/etc.) to give you sage tier advice on putting a lego set together (basic health stuff any dumbasss can learn decently if they put the effort into learning it).

BMI isn't perfect.... man lands on moon!

The fact remains it's accurate for most people in this country. I don't score well on BMI either but it's useful as a quick indicator. Obviously bf% is the better way to go when assessing health, but that's more intensive to keep track of. BMI works for it's purpose, bunch of try hards always trying to bash it because there's outliers with it instead of using it for what it is, a quick health check that will be accurate more often than not but doesn't tell the whole story. Once you accept that's what it is you can stop hating it and move on with your life
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Oh this thread again

30+ BMI is never healthy & your body will suffer for it

Your body doesn't care whether it's muscle or fat, all it knows is it's being strained; musculature is not a guarantor of good health

It's not even used to gauge body fat levels, stay off Google

I usedhttps://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/edu...MI/bmicalc.htmto check my bmi at 5'11" 175lbs and got 24.4. "Normal" is 18.5-24.9. To me 175lbs is excess weight......I'm fat right now. I don't look fat, but I am carrying excess useless weight. Damn those Totinoes Party Pizza!!!!! Just ate the last one yesterday, will not buy again.....for a while. Too tempting.

I'm not a bodybuilder. I am not trying to have muscles for a look. I'm trying to get back down to 160-165 which would put me even more within the "normal" range. I have plenty muscle, but when I say I am leaned out.....I actually am.

Not leaned out roided out or tren or whatever ped, natty. I see lots of "huge" dudes at my gym that would think like OP, but really they are just fat with muscle.
